Navigon adds augmented reality and enhanced traffic to iOS apps

Apr 14th 2011 10:15AM (TUAW.com)
The voice prompt doesn't tell you in advance which side of the road the destination is on. If the app can show you an arrow, it should be able to give you a voice prompt as well. This is a frustrating flaw in the software that plenty of users have complained about, to no avail (so far).

Navigon adds augmented reality and enhanced traffic to iOS apps

Before adding new gee-whiz features, I'd rather Navigon fix a basic flaw that people have been griping about for a long time: that the app doesn't tell you which side of the road your destination is on until after you actually reach it. Lame.

Gartner says Microsoft will surpass Apple in mobile by 2015

Apr 7th 2011 4:38PM (TUAW.com)
Wait, so they're saying that two old-market giants clueless about the new mobile market are going to be dominant only because they're going to join forces???

Please. Two bad products combined does not a good product make. I hope no one is buying MS or Nokia stock based on this lamebrained prediction.

Chicago 2011: Volkswagen debuts turbocharged 2012 Jetta GLI, priced from $23,495

Feb 9th 2011 12:04AM (Autoblog)
Is it true that you get 2011 Jetta cheapening (cheaper interior plastics, wimpier doors, trunk hinges, etc.) while still paying 2010 Jetta prices?

Glad I got my 2010 SportWagen. And glad the SportWagen is based on the Golf and not the American Jetta.

Rumormill: European Volkswagen Jetta could come to the U.S. in 2014

Or just do what I did - buy a Jetta SportWagen instead of a Jetta sedan. It's really just a Golf wagon, so you get the upscale build quality missing from the new U.S. Jetta. Not to mention extra cargo capacity. :)

2012 Ford Focus pricing revealed, starting at $16,270*

@ essende "but thats the thing, average American has this obsession about bigger being better (and a fact that some of them will not even be able to fit comfortably in a compact due to their "volume" although the new B segment Focus is of a size of 2003-2007 Accord)"

Sadly, it's not just average Americans, it's the auto magazines too. Before I bought my new Jetta SportWagen, I read reviews that griped about cramped rear seat room, despite the fact this Jetta is the exact same size my 2000 Passat was. So a compact Jetta becomes a mid-sized Jetta and still it's not big enough. No wonder cars keep creeping up in size (and shrinking in MPG). I suppose everyone needs the leg room of a Lincoln Continental. :|

Diesel-powered Jeep Wrangler with start/stop unveiled for Europe. Where's the love?

"Because the government (thru the EPA) requires such strict emission regulations on diesels that they are too cost prohibitive to bring over here and make them emissions legal. You could do it but the cost would be so high consumers wouldn't want to pay for it." - Frank

Tell that to my new diesel VW Jetta SportWagen (45 mpg freeway, 50-state legal, under $30k).

Hatchbacks: Who says Americans don't buy 'em?

Sep 28th 2010 3:14PM (Autoblog)
Having owned a new diesel Jetta wagon the past few months, I don't know why I've ever owned sedans in the past, with their trunk openings that couldn't accommodate a decent-sized box. We've all done the drill before - trying to cram a box into the trunk opening and failing, then trying to get it in the back seat and failing, then calling our SUV-driving friend. It's embarrassing to need a big vehicle just to get a box to the UPS store when all you really need is a hatchback/wagon.

Hatchbacks are the intelligent choice. I'd like to see more of them.

Report: GM will sell diesel passenger car in the U.S.

Sep 27th 2010 4:17PM (Autoblog)
Huzzah! As a recent convert to diesel automobiles, I say this is good news indeed. I enjoy 45 MPG (highway, about 35 MPG mixed) in my new diesel Jetta wagon, no bad smell or black smoke, good passenger and cargo space, and plenty of power on tap. And no battery with declining capacity to worry about.

I'm surprised more automakers aren't jumping on the clean diesel train.

Report: 2011 Volkswagen Jetta SportWagen won't be based on new Jetta

Jul 23rd 2010 7:48PM (Autoblog)
I've owned a 2010 SportWagen for about a month, and I actually find it a very attractive vehicle in red. I hate the straight rear view - VW really needs to do something about those frumpy taillights. But the front and side views are quite nice. The 17" Porto wheels definitely help.

All around a fantastic vehicle. Fun to drive, solid, high-quality interior, lots of cargo space, amazing MPG.

I'm not really sure where the "cramped legroom" gripes come from. Is it a 7-series Bimmer? No. But there's as much rear legroom in this car as I had in my 2000 Passat, which was considered a family car. I guess as cars continue to get bigger and bigger, we look back at what was considered adequate yesterday and deem it inadequate today. *shrug*
