Sony: New PS3 firmware to accompany PSN relaunch, network being physically rebuilt
Apr 27th 2011 8:56PM (Joystiq)Maybe this HACKER and INTRUSION crap was all a ruse to get us all worked up so they can announce a brand new network....
...nah.
With a person with a PSN account and a broken PS3. All this has gotten me worried. But I'm still somewhat excited about this new firmware...
Probably Not the Wii 2, Part I: Innovation reinvented
Apr 22nd 2011 5:56PM (Joystiq)Such as but not limited to:
-the ps3 slim
-the 360 slim
-Microsoft's project natal (Kinect)
-the psp phone (xperia play)
-the psp go
-Duke Nukem Forever
...and so forth. We can honestly say that many of us have been proven wrong since even though we live in an age where fact checking, multiple sources, and easy photography are present, we still remain skeptical. Companies we love, year after year, surprise us with something new each and every time so I'm still remaining skeptical on both sides here.

Patapon 3 review: Pata-Pata-Pata-Punishing
Apr 21st 2011 5:41PM (Joystiq)I admit, I've been questioning joystiq's reviews for the games this year.
Joystiq is my favorite site but I check out other reviews from other gamesites and read them too, even (shudders) IGN and Gamespot.
It looks like many people have split into 3 groups for this game: Ones who hated the changes, loved them, or are in the middle. As for joystiq, it seems that multiplayer was the biggest frustration here but according to IGN and Gamespot, they actually enjoyed it.
It seems to me (and I actually READ the reviews) that joystiq seems to be very critical at this point in time, no longer giving 4 or 5 star reviews to games I thought they would all pretty much enjoy. Its kind of hard for me to believe that many sequels of titles they enjoyed or games that were very similar in the past, would score so low right now.
I take both score and the written review to account for I believe the reviewer's score ultimately reflects the tone of the written part of the review.
In my opinion, and I do not want to offend people here, is that joystiq's current taste reflects one similar to that of a teenager going through a musical taste phase: where last year he loved a particular band and when that same band releases a single with a similar style, they chastise it very severely in an albeit very vague way almost saying "they lost there touch" even though it sounds very much like what the band has played before.
I know opinions change and that people's taste should change but the factor of why remains a mystery to me, but I still LOVE JOYSTIQ and continue to want to be apart of there community.
I loved patapon 1/2 and for this version I would have given it a 4/5, since it had various improvements but came short on some gameplay aspects such as difficulty and unlocking certain features in the game.
But giving this game a 50% out of 100% score seems that this type of game is close to what shovelware scores and is an( F-) in a letter grade.
I, like many other joystiq fans, disagree with the overall review. But I do not condone the opinion of either the reviewer or anyone else who did not enjoy this game. I just expected a more concise opinion on the overall WHY and METHODOLOGY from a professional reviewer.
