Oh, Joystiq, brightening my dreary / rainy Monday morning with your clever wit!

February NPD: Hardware sales up over January, everything down year over year

@ottoman673

Casual games typically peak around Christmas, so it makes sense to see them dip during the early parts of the year.

SimCity 5 rumors building

I think this article should have been named: "SimCity 5 building rumors". That would have been an epic title!

I guess treating others with respect is "to" hard for some people * shrugs *

Plenty of people have issues with games on PCs...Even with Steam.

Games perform differently on different video cards, drivers for said video cards, and a host of other reasons.

A Mild-Mannered Reporter: A critical year

Personally, I liked the AT columns more than the villain highlight columns.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think it would be fun to do a column, even if it is only a one time thing, about what you're currently doing in game.

What power set(s) are you playing?
What content are you doing?
Are you teaming?

Obviously, being a master of the "liguistical arts", it would be your job to make it fun and entertaining!

EA sees $205 million net loss in Q3, rise in social-games users

Feb 1st 2012 5:13PM (Joystiq)
@TheHyphenator

The funny thing about most gamers is that they don't understand how astronomically expensive video games are to produce.

On a $60 game, these things get taken out:

20% to the retailer ($12)
15% or so to Microsoft / Sony ($9)

In other words, a $60 game only nets the company $40.

Then, money goes towards the following:
Intellectual Property owner (If applicable) (5%-10% or so)
Developer(s) (5%-10% or so)

THEN, after all that is paid, you have to cover marketing, headcount, buildings / rent / etc.

You should look at the market trends of late. Games are getting consistently better than previous years, are costing more to make, AND are selling less than previous years! In other words, games cost more and make less.

There, I'm done with my rant.

Blizzard kills Diablo III's RMT to appease South Korea

As has been stated a multitude of times, this is not pay to win in the sense that everyone is complaining about.

1. Blizzard is not selling gear. Players are.
2. Blizzard is facilitating the sale of gear because:
A. It was going to happen anyway, so:
I. Why not take a small slice of that pie?
II. Now players won't get scammed.
B. Players want it, plain and simple.
3. This does not have to affect you in the least bit, unless you PVP.

The vocal minority may not want it, but the vast number of people that used "Forum Gold" on D2 will love this feature.
