Joystiq's new commenting system is live

Apr 5th 2012 1:14AM (Joystiq)
I always thought the comment system here was generally superior to other sites the way it was -- easy to read, functional, up/down voting, fit the theme, fast loading...

But, seeing those 'features' of the new one sounds like its gonna get kinda crappy...guessing super slow initial load too...guess we'll see.

Xbox 360 used more for video and music apps than for gaming

@lazerbyte Exactly its a joke -- if you want these kinds of things on your tv just put together a super cheap ass pc. No fees outside of isp..the way it should be.

@Ellimem No its crystal clear why they do it...money.

What isn't clear is why people are ok with paying ms to use the internet they are already paying isp's for. Its not like you pay for live and then get netflix for free...you still have to buy a sub with them as well...

Hands-on with LA Noire on a tablet with OnLive

@Rawry
"People love to be armchair scientists when it comes to things like Onlive"

I wonder if that has anything to do with the fact that you can test and figure out stuff like onlive while sitting in a chair?

@maveric101 You're right that your connection will make the quality vary (compression/lag specifically), but no matter how good your conn gets its still going to be compressed video. In addition regardless of your connection you won't be able to adjust graphics settings. Best case scenario is low/med settings viewed through compressed vid with some amount of lag.

I suppose anyone who doesn't notice or care about the difference between watching a compressed stream from netflix compared to from source (dvd/bluray/etc) might not care about these problems tho...

@Knives Chau I'm not saying onlive isn't a 'way' to game...but its certainly not a 'fantastic' way to game given the other obvious options out there.

If you don't experience lag, you either live right next door to onlive servers, or you simply don't notice/care about lag. The only way lag will not exist if we break the speed of light.

Call me a "graphics whore" or any other regurgitated no-thought name all you want...but I'm going to continue to say that playing a game with lag, low graphic settings through compressed video, etc is just not the 'best' way to be doing it. It is A way...but its just not a GOOD way.

I will end on a positive note tho -- I will always say that the ability to pop in and watch other people play games with onlive is a really cool feature. I have it installed for the sole purpose of occasional lunch break entertainment.

@philnolan3d Yep -- cause when I think of 'fantastic' gaming things like laggy inputs and low graphic settings viewed through compressed video immediately come to mind.

A touchscreen device using onlive...I simply cannot think of a worse way to play a game.

Can we pretty please stop using the phrase 'hd graphics'. Its such a nonsense buzzword/phrase.

Aso the controllers look neat -- not something I'd buy but kinda neat :)
