Desi: Postal 3 in 'final stages'

Nov 9th 2010 7:52PM (Joystiq)
Saw this at Tucson Comic-Con this weekend. Looked pretty good to me, relative to what I expected from the franchise.

The most interesting thing I heard was that most of the development is happening in Moscow, and that the delays have been due to the publisher and team there (according to RWS).

Sounds like the RWS team is working on a platformer as their next game. Shock. The producer present mentioned the Weapon of Choice and Explosionade games as comparable to what they have in mind.

Dragon Age: Origins Awakening now available on Mac

Aug 31st 2010 5:41PM (Joystiq)
@kentuckyfried
It's quite similar to the PC version. Not well optimized, because it's a lazy Cider port, but at least it's not the awful pseudo-action game from the consoles.

The real issue is that the DLC support has been awful. Bioware would not confirm that this expansion was coming for months, and the other smaller DLC is not available. It's not even been patched up to parity. I bought the deluxe edition but I won't be buying the expansion for that reason.

@Temidien
Mac version is not on there, however.

Xbox Live subscription prices to rise; $60 for 1 year beginning in Nov. [update]

On the one hand, now I'm glad I just bought a discounted 12 month membership card. On the other hand, this is pretty ridiculous. I've got to bite the bullet and install Windows on my Mac; this kind of nonsense makes me realize why I've always been a computer gamer first.

This game seems very forgettable to me. The post-apocalyptic Mad Max look has been done repeatedly recently, and with Rage on the horizon I think this is shaping up to be lost in the static... Then again, I'm not a big competitive shooter fan.

Puzzle Quest Chapters 1 and 2 free on iPhone this weekend

@Burner It's actually a pretty terrible port. Good game, though. If you're looking for a puzzle RPG on iPhone I'd recommend Swords and Poker 2 instead.

I really wish they weren't getting this reputation as a sequel studio that puts out technically flawed and unfinished games. Not that it's undeserved, but they have some amazing storytelling talent on staff, and there are so few developers who value that kind of ability.

This path of working on other companies' IP—particularly with the probable marketplace failure of Alpha Protocol—doesn't bode well for their future. I've heard some vague rumors of mismanagement on podcasts, but I have no way of verifying that stuff.

The Witcher 2 bewitching PCs in Spring 2011

May 27th 2010 2:58AM (Joystiq)
I love the syntax of the subtitle. Obviously there's potential for sequels:

"Torturers of Popes"
"Poisoners of Viziers"

And if they want to expand the world, imagine these lifestyle simulations set in the exciting world of The Witcher:

"Manservants of Carpenters"
"Barbers of Noblemen"
