I'm surprised Nintendo is STILL releasing Pokemon titles on the DS instead of tapping into the much greater capabilities of the 3DS. I'm guessing these games were in production LONG before the 3DS was fully developed and released though.
Still looking forward to what they do with a main series 3DS Pokemon title though. Here's hoping for more fluid attack animations as seen in the Pokemon Stadium games rather than just a vague representation of what the Pokemon is supposed to be doing (watching those enough times gets REALLY tedious and I end up disabling them completely).
@CaptainProtonX: Personally, I don't think the references are a big deal since "story" wasn't even the real focus of Diablo II. It was treasure hunting through an endless set of randomly generated dungeons looking for increasingly better gear. The plot itself is about as simple as "hero destroys giant devil and saves everyone" and that's fine for a game like Diablo.
@xiLeShadow: Except that isn't what's happening. It just grabs a list of games that you've signed into in-game and adds those. It doesn't have to "scan" anything.
@Bloodfire: It most certainly does. The first Mass Effect can be registered through the old EA download manager site (doesn't work in Origin for some reason) and Mass Effect 2's key can be registered through Origin's "activate" feature.
I forgot about the Dead Space games though. I'll have to add them in as well. I did get Spore and Darkspore though. I'm pretty sure it only knows because you logged into your EA account at some point in-game.
@Ryuk: That's what I'd like to see as well. Maybe even an alternate combat system where you can fight by using the moves in real-time rather than passive "turn based". Given how many times you have to fight other pokemon in a typical game, something more engaging would be nice. I'd even settle for Pokemon Stadium style combat as it's far more interesting to watch than cheap animations that vaguely represent the attack. Sadly, nothing will change as long as this game keeps making a lot of money.
Another thing. I wish they'd do away with the low-fi pokemon sounds. It made sense on the Gameboy when sound hardware was very limited but the DS is perfectly capable of re-producing the same audio you would hear in the cartoons.
"Also, the game's cutscenes are compressed quite heavily, which makes for jarring transitions from the smooth PC graphics."
This wouldn't be the first game where that happens. I remember way back as far as Psychonauts (or going back further, FInal Fantasy VII PC) having this issue that made the in-game graphics looks considerably better than the cutscenes. I honestly wonder why full motion video is even needed when it shares the same style as the main game.
@Frozen Pizza: I wonder if they want to increase the popularity of Battlefield 3. I had zero interest in ever purchasing it but now that it's being handed to me, I have no reason not to at least try it. It's just that Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3 seems like two completely unrelated games so I'm not sure how the audience of one will find any appeal with the other. I guess I will find out in time.
@(Unverified): Apparently you'll get an e-mail from EA once Mass Effect 3 is released that will instruct you on how to redeem your free copy of Battlefield 3 (at least that's what the store page reads). I guess they don't want anyone pre-ordering Mass Effect 3, getting their free copy of Battlefield 3, and then backing out of their pre-purchase at the last minute.
In any sense, I'm too wrapped up in Kingdoms of Amalur to play something like Battlefield 3 anyway.
Sweet!! What an awesome update to what was already a really fun game. I'd strongly recommend downloading the swf itself and playing it with the Flash Standalone player so that you don't need to keep your browser open and can play it like any other game. I also use Xpadder for my controller which is a big help.
This will certainly keep me happy until Mushroom Kingdom Fusion is finished (which is quite a monstrous sized project).
