Torchlight XBLA review: All the loot, half the noise

Mar 14th 2011 4:55PM (Joystiq)
I recently played through Torchlight and Titan's Quest and I must say, Torchlight, despite being a cool throwback, lacks the depth of many of the more hardcore Action RPGs of the 90's and 2000s. Seriously. If you are getting a PC action RPG, check out Titan Quest or replay Diablo 2 for some deeper gameplay.

Anyone else notice that this advice is coming from a woman who's own child died of "cot death" aka SIDS. This baby-killer is trying to "fix" the wrongs of other parents, lol.

MSNBC: video games an 'easy scapegoat'

This is pretty accurate, libel is excempted to the press in the case of public figures. I think it would be pretty difficult for Jack Thompson to contest that he is "not a public figure" considering how much camera jumping he does. On a second note, I wonder who would represent him in FL, wasn't he disbarred?

I would like to mention that Napster already offers ad-based revenue music playback from a web-based player on their site.

The problem with getting music that can be copied to a device for free (ad-based revenue) is that the content producers will never let it happen... unless, as you say, the device manufacturers subsidize the costs in the hopes of making up for it with ad-revenue or device sales.

I do not think that Microsoft is about to do this though as this would be competing with the playsforsure model and would most likely anger partners (Creative, iRiver, and so forth) resulting in a lawsuit.

At any rate, I think that your idea is good, perhaps Napster should come up with a way to get free songs onto players. Perhaps build another device that works with their service and enables (meters) ads.

Take-Two internal probe deems decade of financial statements unreliable

Dec 12th 2006 12:51AM (Joystiq)
Yeah, good call with the backdating options being overrated. Lots of high tech companies did this and it's totally independent of the success of the company. The quick explaination of backdating is this:

Take 2 stock Q1 (01/97 - 03/97) 1997 price $10
Take 2 stock Q2 (04/97 - 06/97) 1997 price $10

somewhere inbetween Q1 and Q1 the stock bottoms out at $2. By some miracle of accounting, executives manage to have this date be their strike date and get options at $2. Fast forward the future....

People look at Take 2's 10-Q statements and woweee.. look how lucky their CEOs were to get the lowest possible strike prices for every quarter for the last 9 years.... Anyways, not as big a deal as say... Enron or Parmalat, but you can see how investors get a little shaky from this type of aggressive accounting.

Move along... nothing to see here... you'll still be playing GTA4 by 2008.

How-To: Transcode & stream videos on Xbox 360

Just to clarify, Transcoding is changing the encoding of one compressed media file to another encoding. Also, you can use Microsoft's Movie Maker to perform transcoding as well.
