Heavenly Sword animated series: Part I

Aug 8th 2007 7:33PM (Joystiq)
I find it funny that Episodes I, II, and III (3 movies that are incredibly underrated) are slammed for having mindless action and looking like a cartoon. Meanwhile, Clone Wars which really is a cartoon with no story and nothing but mindless action is ceaselessly praised. What a backwards society we leave in.

Pokemon hits the 5 million mark

Dec 28th 2006 11:53PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
According to the Media Create numbers, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl combined sales are at 4.3 million in Japan. But at the rate it's selling it probably will reach the 5 million mark some day.

Japanese hardware sales, Oct. 30 - Nov. 5: PSP overtakes its big brother

Nov 11th 2006 7:15PM (Joystiq Playstation)
@Killbloggers

I looked at those sites that you posted and they look like Amazon.com top ten lists, which means they are only a snapshot of what the top selling games are. Which also means those lists are only tracking online sales and not the sales that occur in the store.

Furthermore, Media Create only reports games that are actually in the hands of the consumer, which means you definitely won't see a game like Metal Gear on the Media Create charts because Metal Gear hasn't been released yet.

New Wii hands-ons, plus Phoenix Wright import

Oct 26th 2006 7:23PM (Joystiq)
12. "'After spending a half an hour struggling to complete the first level of Double Agent on Wii, I went home, popped in the PS2 version, and blasted through it unscathed in minutes.'

And they say Wii is suppost to make playing games easier. My ass!"

It's obvious you didn't even read the hands-on impressions or you would have understood the context of that quote. Splinter Cell for the Wii is a PS2 port with PS2 buttons mapped to the Wii-mote and nunchaku buttons. This is not a game that was built from the ground-up to use the Wii hardware to it's potential. If a developer takes the cheap way of putting a game on a system then expect cheap results.

Japanese hardware sales, 4 September - 10 September: completely wiidiculous edition

Sep 15th 2006 11:59PM (Joystiq)
Hey Bill. This is what you said two weeks ago:

"Like I said lets all meet back here for next week's sales figures. My guess is DS takes a hefty hit. How about the next NPD's? Will they even maintain a lead on PSP?"

So where were you last week? Decide to go on vacation? Last week in Japan the DS Lite outsold the PSP by 210,000 units. NPDs for the month of August showed the DS Lite outselling the PSP by 132,000 units. PSP can't even outsell GBA in North America. And by the way, GBA has always been outselling the PSP, even when the PSP was outselling the DS all those months you keep bragging about.

And I don't know how you can be gloating this week. True, DS Lite sales weren't as huge as they were last week but it still beats the sales of everything else combined by almost a factor of 2:1.

And I heard this from you two weeks ago and I'm hearing it again this week, but all I keep hearing is GAF said this and GAF said that. Who gives a **** what GAF said? Are GAF the official mouthpiece of Nintendo? Why do you give so much weight to GAF? Frankly, it doesn't matter what anyone says, because the facts speak for themselves, and the facts show that the DS is winning in every major region and worldwide.

And I see this trend continuing. Pokemon is on the way, and that series is still very popular whether you want to admit it or not. The US hasn't gotten Final Fantasy III yet and now Square Enix have announced another 3 games are in development for the DS along with the other games SE has already announced for the system. And I think that's also proof that Japanese sales do matter. I'm sure the phenomenal sales of the DS in Japan, where RPGs are very popular, played a big part in SE's decision to put these games on the DS.

As for those software sales Bill. I don't see those indicating a shift in anything. Last week's number one game, Phantasy Star Universe which sold more than 120,000 units dropped down to number 9. This week's number one game Tales of Phantasia only sold a little more than 66,000 units and only outsold the number 2 game by a mere 13,000 units. And that game was New Super Mario Bros., which is 4 months old and just passed the 3,000,000 units sold mark this week. With the rest of the top ten made up of DS games (another 2 being past the 3,000,000 mark) and 1 GBA game I'd say it's business as usual.

Japanese hardware sales, 28 August - 3 September: major megaton edition

210,000+ lead over the PSP in just one week in Japan.

132,000 lead in the month of August for NPD. PSP couldn't even beat the GBA.

DS becomes Japan's fastest selling game machine, ever

Aug 2nd 2006 7:05PM (Joystiq)
@duscrom

But you see the DS is selling at a faster rate (in Japan at least) than the GBA with the competition from the PSP than the GBA sold with NO competition.

And true Nintendo has dominated the handheld market for the past 17 years. But Nintendo also dominated the console market up until 1995 when a little thing called Playstation came along. A lot of people thought the PSP would take the handheld crown from Nintendo the way Playstation took the console crown especially after the DS was unveiled with its "gimmicky" inferior technology and N64-era graphics.

Compared to its predecessors the DS was facing an uphill battle and proceeded to surpass all expectations.

True. A lot of the DS's best titles are first party titles. There's no disputing that. But there are also a ton of great third party titles (see strider's list above).

5 DS predictions for 2006

I thought it was already announced that you would be able to downoad DS demos through the revolution. I might be wrong.
