Survey: iPad customer satisfaction is at 91%

May 20th 2010 4:56PM (TUAW.com)
It's a cool piece of hardware that's seriously hamstrung by the iphone OS. I've had mine (32G wifi) for almost 3 weeks now. They need to beef up the browser (yeah, no flash support really sucks - f u, Steve), youtube thinks it's a phone so a bunch of popular videos are filtered from it, and regardless of what Steve says, the lack of multitasking really kills the notion that it's a viable alternative to a netbook. I'm not sure the "multitasking" that's coming in iphone OS 4 is going to make it much better, either.

I bought the apple bluetooth keyboard to make it easier to type emails, but in that mode it would really benefit from bluetooth mouse support as well. It's awkward switching from the keyboard to touching the screen to click stuff and switch between dialog boxes (like in gmail), and the ipad often ends up falling off its stand after a tap or two. And one thing that really sucks is that it doesn't support groups of contacts on google mail, whether you're using the email app or any of the web interfaces on safari (yeah, thanks again for the crappy mobile browser)

On the plus side, the touchscreen is great, many of the apps are beautiful (though few are truly valuable), battery life is really good, and it's a great device for reading newspaper websites and watching the videos you are permitted to watch on youtube.

I'm "somewhat satisfied". For me, it's just a toy - an ipod touch with a big screen. Yes, it's a relatively cool toy but it has a long way to go before it's really something that changes the way I use computers, despite what Steve wants you to believe.

Wii Internet Channel free from now on, the way it should be

I found the rendering to be plenty quick. I doubt firefox would be any quicker.

Wii Internet Channel free from now on, the way it should be

gosh, this is a nice gesture but I'm sure glad I never bothered spending $5 on it. The browser itself is really quite nice but it's ridiculously constrained running at 480p, especially on a big TV. It would help if the menu bar on the bottom would autohide or something so you could make more use of those precious 480 lines of rez. It would be the bomb if the Wii did 1080p....

Unfortunately, Youtube XL looked pretty crappy, too. It doesn't need to look that crappy.

Palm webOS system upgrades mandatory; hacking scene forbidden from tethering

Jun 16th 2009 11:45AM (Engadget)
is it just my area or are Pres hard to find everywhere? I didn't think there would be a huge surge of demand so I didn't rush to the stores to check it out but I've been looking around for one for the past week or so and I can't find them in stock anywhere (I've called or checked every best buy, sprint store, and radio shack in my area). I thought I had read that Palm promised a steady stream of deliveries but nobody seems to know when they'll get replenished stock.

Sony warns of $2.9 billion annual loss, reveals restructuring plan

Jan 22nd 2009 9:25AM (Joystiq)
The problem with Sony is that they USED to hold an edge in terms of quality and technology over their less expensive rivals, which justified their price premium. Now that's no longer true, and it hasn't been for the better part of two DECADES. They've been operating on smug arrogance for far too long and now the crows are coming home to roost.

The PS3's problem isn't all marketing or superbowl ads. It's just not a standout product. Its strengths lie in areas that are of little importance to the marketplace or where it is matched by its less expensive rivals. In the areas that ARE truly important to the market, the PS3 is matched or surpassed by its rivals. For the price premium, it should offer SOMETHING tangible that makes it truly stand out.

JVC's GY-HM100 / GY-HM700 ProHD camcorders capture QuickTime straight to SDHC

Jan 9th 2009 12:09AM (Engadget HD)
Quicktime sucks. I have a Canon 5d Mk 2 and a Mac and editing the video the 5dmk2 spits out is like pulling teeth. Somebody at Apple or Canon needs to fix the colorspace issues so one needn't jump through flaming hoops and intermediate codecs to simply get the proper video into your timeline of choice. Even if you edit with Final Cut Pro, the colorspace is screwed up. It's screwed up on Windows too. Seriously, screw Quicktime. It's a steaming bag of hurt.

Hopefully JVC figures out how to work around the limitations.

it's interesting how autoblog never seems to properly cite the proper source of these news items.

Obama billed $44.5K for in-game advertising

Oct 30th 2008 4:28PM (Joystiq)
wow, $44.5k seems like a tiny amount for (I'm assuming) such a large number of impressions, particularly considering all the bonus publicity it has generated...

VIDEO: 2010 Acura NSX, the 'Ring, enough said

you call the LF-A and GT-R "inspired"?! LOL. They're about as inspiring as riding mowers. All these front-engined ill-proportioned beasts will be lumped into the same bin.
