Street Fighter III: Third Strike Online Edition review: Aged to perfection
Aug 22nd 2011 6:08PM (Joystiq)Theoretically, yeah, parrying is "game-breaking" in the hands of someone who can read the opponent ALL THE TIME. However, I've yet to see any player who can parry EVERYTHING that the opponent throws out (not even the best -- people like Kuroda -- can do this).
The beauty of parrying is that it throws MORE OPTIONS into the game. Don't believe me? Look at the example (not the best, but you get the point):
I jump in on you while you're standing on the ground. Without parrying, you can easily punish my jump. However, with parrying, you don't know what to do:
- If you AA, I have the ability to parry it.
- If you allow me to land, then we can get to have some fun with more guessing games (use your imagination to figure these ones out).
In any case, if parrying is so ground-breaking, and you're someone who can bring theory into reality (a.k.a. 100% parrying/teching), then how come I've never seen your name pop up at any tournaments :X? Hell, how come I've never met a player like you?
Just sayin'.
P.S. No need to respond to this, as I'm sure you'll throw something witty and... dumb. I still have no idea why I responded to your post. Odd.
Atlus offers video-based King of Fighters XIII training
Aug 19th 2011 4:21PM (Joystiq)But hey, nice attempt at being witty (or being a smarta**? I'm honestly leaning towards the latter)!
Please don't bother posting back, because I don't plan on replying back. Just throwing that out there :)

Aug 19th 2011 2:39AM (Joystiq)Oh well, time for the newer players to mess around in training mode :)
Watch 32 minutes of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
Aug 10th 2011 5:15AM (Joystiq)The original REs was what defined the series, and also defined the survival horror genre. The "older" generation wants those back, but sales dictate the need for crap like RE5 and... this wannabe-L4D-with-a-few-tricks -- we already have enough of these from other devs.
But hey, what can you expect from a good-turned-evil company such as *cough* Crapcom *cough*?
RIP Resident Evil, you had a good run.
Japanese Hardware Sales, July 18 - 24: The greatest moment in fighting game history edition
Aug 1st 2011 2:45AM (Joystiq)Take into consideration the players that are actually going at it -- two vets who've been in big stages before ('04 Evo wasn't nearly as big as the newer ones)? They're not going to flinch as easily as you think. Then again, I'm sure you haven't been in any big stages yourself, so.. that may be hard to believe.
Again, I'm merely pointing out that that moment isn't as great compared to the ones I've seen (and are easily accessible on YouTube -- go search them). You can actually say something about this once you've done that.
Also, I'm wondering why I'm even posting such comments on a... rather "casual-friendly" website such as this one :( I'm sure nearly 95% of the people here are just your usual stream monsters -- fathom the playstyles of good players while not practicing yourselves. It's fairly evident in games such as LoL (yeah, pulled that one out of my butt, haha).
Oh well, more rate downs for me! Keep proving my point :)

Aug 1st 2011 12:58AM (Joystiq)Any person worth their salt would've LOVED that situation that Daigo was in -- have a desperate guy throw out an obvious SA2 from THAT distance, which is obnoxiously easy to full parry. If you want to see something better, do yourself a favor and find one of Pyrolee's vids when he was in Japan (too lazy to find the link -- you'll find it though!)
To the untrained eye: it looks cool and all, but honestly nothing special. There are better "EVO" moments (*points at some of the later ones*).
Take this from a guy who used to play at FFA & Denjin down in LA.
But hey, flame on! :)
