Capcom on the hunt for Street Fighter X Tekken hackers

Mar 19th 2012 10:49PM (Joystiq)
Capcom is really stupid right now. They got caught doing something stupid. The truth is that these games live and die by fan support and with each game announced they are just pissing their fans off more and more.

First they make a game and then say DLC is coming out. Then they say no, that it was because of the Tsunami, and they are going to re-release the game with the DLC.

Now they release the game with the DLC on the disc and complain when people find it and dare to use these characters. I do think it is silly for them to use the characters online because they can be found out, but still. Bunch of silly geese.

If you are a Capcom fan and really want to piss them off, do us all a favor, wait and buy the game USED! Japanese publishers have a total lack of understanding with online/DLC and this proves it even more.

GameStop's Prototype 2 pre-order bonus is actually called 'Butt Kicker'

Jan 7th 2012 8:53AM (Joystiq)
This game just seems like it wants to be what Saints Row became. Playing to the lowest common denominator but doesn't have the style. I remember when I had my game store and thought the game was glitchy and unpolished but kids loved it. One of those "mature" rated titles that kids go ape shit for because of the amount of violence and gore in it.

It is ashamed because the developer has done some good quality work but since working with Activision they have been meh.

NFL Blitz returns to the gridiron in 2012

Oct 19th 2011 11:53AM (Joystiq)
Game looks cool but doesn't look "retail" ready. I am surprise they are going the retail route again considering what happened with NBA Jam. Maybe sales were worse online?

Seems like it would be a great download game but not for the disc. I mean when the game comes out the full version of Madden could be the same price.

UFC on Xbox Live: Full-access octagon

Oct 7th 2011 10:38AM (Joystiq)
I am not a fan of UFC but they are innovators. I think this will be really huge and we will see other events. It won't surprise me if WWE jumps in with Xbox also. They are working on a network themselves but have loads of content including their live events. Seems like a no-brainer and no offense, seems like the exact market that they are looking for.

The only problem is that videogames have caused people to watch TV less. With the devices doing more media does that mean we are going to play less games?

WSJ: Sony buying out Ericsson's end of mobile joint-venture

Oct 7th 2011 10:28AM (Joystiq)
Without knowing how successful their Xperia line is, it is hard to say why they would want this other than wanting full control and to just have SONY on these phones.

The mobile platform has changed in the last 10 years and it is one of the few things that is profitable because of cell phone plans. I actually think that the "PlayStation" name has been damaged in the past few years. It is no where as high as it was during the PlayStation 2 years.

Vita looks interesting but I still think the UI looks silly. If they are going to continue Xperia they may fraction out the Android market even more. I doubt any of their phones would adopt Windows Phone 7. It also maybe far too late for them to create their own mobile OS without buying someone like webOS or RIM.

I think the later two actually would make more sense especially if they want to build SONY up with their devices. TV, Phone, Gaming all connected. It is what both Microsoft and Apple are doing right now. Android can do it all but it is not exclusive to SONY.

If these "talks" are that fragile, maybe SONY may end their partnership with Erricson and go with someone else instead.

Infinity Ward's day in court: May 7, 2012

Sep 9th 2011 9:15PM (Joystiq)
I think they may win the lawsuit for their past owed money but won't win the rights to Call of Duty or Modern Warfare. Unless otherwise stated, Infinity Ward owns that and Infinity Ward was purchased by Activision.

The Avengers: The Video Game leaks, cancelled by THQ

Aug 30th 2011 9:33PM (Joystiq)
At first I am thinking, oh the Skrulls are confirmed for the Avengers movie but here is the odd thing, depending on how long ago this game was cancelled. Most of these characters don't look like their movie counterparts.

Most noticable is Thor, wearing something more like Ultimate Thor vs. the movie version, which is more like his current comic version. Same with Captain America wearing a more Ultimate costume vs. what we have been shown as his new movie costume.

So it is possible that an Avengers game was being developed but this maybe wasn't "The Avengers: The Movie: The Game" if you get my drift. Though typically we get some sort of announcement of what company is making the game, like Sega getting the rights to Iron Man, Thor and Captain America before the movies were in production.

It is possible that because this movie is being produced now under Disney that Sega lost the rights and Disney/Marvel are shopping around. Activision has a more powerful marketing department and could release another "Marvel Ultimate Alliance/Legends" style game but with these characters.

DC Universe Online merging regular servers into MegaServers this Monday

Aug 7th 2011 10:35PM (Joystiq)
You know, this game is going to die and just doesn't have the support it needs. I also think it is funny that they create this game to have players play in the DC Universe, which Jim Lee designed every character for the game only to then hit the reboot button on the entire DC Universe and redesign all the characters.

They may try to use PR spin but going from 24 servers to 4 means people are not buying into the game. They should really try to go the free to play route and hope it saves the game.

I remember they released a holiday pack after the holiday before. Just stupid.

ModernWarfare3.com owner outed by GoDaddy

Jul 19th 2011 11:01AM (Joystiq)
Truth is the guy should have put ads and possibly redirecting it to pre-orders so he could have got some money from it. I do think it is sort of funny when it was redirected to Battlefield.

Also with all the Cyber Hacking and stuff going on, you think Activision would take a moment to think about how they are handling it. I don't agree with the hackers but Activision is just asking for them to test them. Can you imagine a planned attack on Activision and COD Elite when the game comes out?

They should have honestly just went to the guy and offered to buy the site. Stupid for them not to register it either ahead of time. I know the courts will side with Activision but I just feel something bad will happen to them.

Also I have used GoDaddy with no problems and they do have the privacy thing for an additional fee. Not sure if he had that option and they dropped it. They are inviting some hackers too.

Report: Black Rock's final game was a freemium DOTA-style RTS

Jul 5th 2011 8:03AM (Joystiq)
Bad mistakes by Disney is the reason this place closed. Good talent that hopefully finds a home elsewhere. Problem is that racing game genre has dwindled compared to 10 years ago. Even GT wasn't a hit.

They knew this and tried something different. Most of the big publishers have racing studios, some more than one, but Ubisoft doesn't. They maybe willing to gamble doing 2 games, one racing, with them.
