Ctrl+Alt+Del looks at the kill stealing epidemic

Feb 15th 2007 6:22AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I agree with the fact that kill stealing in GoW is wrong. I am certainly not the greatest player out there and when I down someone and then a teammate runs over and finishes the kill it is so frustrating. I can't tell you how many times I find myself yelling "Noooooo that's my kill!!!". I think most of the time when I play, the people I play with don't steal kills on purpose. I think the desire to stop the enemy before one of their teammates can revive them is an overwhelming desire. Most of the time when I yell no, it stops the steal, but when there is a threat of revive I would rather my teammate steal away.

PS3 launching at $974 in Mexico

Dec 15th 2006 11:00AM (Joystiq)
I guess we will have to see what the market can handle. Sony has shown thusfar that there aren't many usits to sell anyway so the law of supply and demand would prescribe that the price should be higher as supply is diminished and demand remains high.

Does this give Sony a good PR point, well no I don't think it does. The question is, do the quality and features of the product make it such that consumers will overlook the overtly obvious profit driven approach this new sales model represents?

Sony has seen brisk sales of the PS2 system this year in lieu of the shortage and high price of the PS3 and this can be attributed to the fact that the brand is very strong. There is a fine library of titles available for the Sony consoles and many developers are already working on Next Generation titles.

Sony may not come out on top of the current console generation war as Microsoft and Nintendo have received a good boost from the shortages of PS3 systems. Also both companies are receiving much good press coverage for their respective consoles.

In the end Sony may still succeed with the Playstation 3 but we won't start to see the turn around until next holiday season when supply increases and price comes down into a more consumer friendly range.

Combine fear the Half-Life 2 case mod

Nov 21st 2006 9:49AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I always worry about potentially damaging my system so I haven't tried a mod as of yet. I was thinking I might try picking up a used system at some point after the holidays and see what I can create. I am thinking about doing a GoW or Halo theme. Can you give any advice from what you learned on your mod?

Anything goes (so long proprietary peripherals) (PS3 delight #002)

Nov 20th 2006 12:33PM (Joystiq)
Let me ask everyone a question... PS3 or 360 aside... why would anyone care about running Linux or connecting weird other peripherals to their systems? Isn't it about the games? I know some people have commented about PS2 joysticks for their PS3... well the PS3 comes with cool wireless joysticks so why would you want to connect your worn out PS2 wired joysticks? I have a 360 and it is a pretty good system for playing games. The PS3 also looks cool for playing games and for that matter so does the Wii and your run of the mill computer.
I think we need to stop debating which feature of what system is better and get the console manufacturers and the game developers to all let us play together I think that would be the best. I would love to jump into CoD3 and see my friends who have PS3 or Wii all in the game with me. I know some games are exclusive to a particular system but for those that are the same it would be great if we could all just come together and play! Am I just preaching here or are there others out there who agree with me?

Xbox Live Video hands-on

Nov 7th 2006 1:10PM (Engadget)
You know I don't mind paying for the specific programming I want to watch. Longstar and others have commented on how they can watch TV for "free" on cable... well unless you are stealing cable, the programming you are watching isn't free. I long for a day when I can cancel cable and simply download just the programs I want to watch. It would be great if the producers of content went further and allowed me to pre-purchase a season of a show and then have it automatically pushed to my console as new episodes became available.
I imagine if shows could be proe-purchased in this way, that more shows that get cancelled on traditional TV would have much longer runs. This would make me much happier due to the fact that just when I start enjoying a series it seems that "Big Brother Network Exec" decides it isn't selling enough Coke or Nike and axes it.
Kudos to Microsoft for going this route, now let's get the program producers on board and maybe we get some Youtube style programming too!
