Nov 18th 2010 7:53PM (Moviefone Blog)A story that that takes women's rights back 100 years, tells you to go for looks alone, encourages abusive relationships, encourages to obsess over the one you love (to the point where nothing else in life matters), has bland characters that are all so perfect, a plot that could have easily ended in 1-2 books but for some reason goes on for 4, was inspired by a lonely woman's sexual fantasy, supports anti-gay groups and has poisoned the minds of girls.
Or ...
A story that encourages doing what's right over what's easy, shows that everyone has value, shows that life is not always perfect and easy, teaches that we should not be afraid of death; but instead be afraid of living without love, teaches that love (not just romantic love, but parental love, friendship) is the most important in life, teaches girls that they don't need a man to live their life and they can stand perfectly fine on their own, teaches everyone not to care about being popular or liked, but to just be true to yourself and you'll be happy, teaches that we're not all good or all bad; we have both good and bad inside of us.
Harry Potter has given me lessons that I will keep until the day I die. I try to make choices that Harry, Ron or Hermione would make. I will (and encourage you to) never try to follow Bella's or Edward's or any Twilight character's example, or else you will never be happy with yourself. Harry Potter has inspired and gave a generation light in this world, a feat no other movie or book will do in decades. Celebrate the fact that we have lived to encounter the release of the 7 books and 8 movies; the world will never experience a phenomenon like this for a very long time.
