Rumor: Japanese Vita devs jumping ship, Sony responds

Feb 16th 2012 4:59PM (Joystiq)
@nerdydesi1 that'd cost about $600 then. smartphones are way more expensive than the Vita, however americans are just naive in that they don't realize that the cost of the device is subsidized by the carrier contract extension and in turn add on a monthly fee of $80 for voice/data/sms and now that PS Vita looks pretty cheap over the next 12 months eh?

i buy unlocked/off contract phones and a $300 Vita w/3G and Wifi is a good $200 cheaper than my LG G2x

@chrisredfield31 agreed my man.. japan was not the choice market to launch in, we were. plus, most of us older gamers want the full console experience on the go; some of us travel a lot and have 2-3 hour blocks to waste.. yea, my ipad ends up playing a movie because i get so bored playing any ios game after 15 mins..

@Space Cobra oh you mean custom firmware and pirating.. :P

i know, i had a launch psp and rocked 1.50 firmware and did the swaploit/kxploit/cfw.. just let the PSP be the hack device/emulator machine and leave the Vita alone is all i have to say. i want the devs/publishers to make good games and support it!

we saw what happened w/the PSP and its CFW/Piracy issues... at least in the usa in regards to games..

@Kevadu great points that most don't even realize or think about. japan is whole different market/beast.

Sony should have launched in the USA first; the Vita is such a USA/EU device vs Japan. Next console by sony SHOULD be launched in the western markets first; more money and willingness to get in early. :)

@Tachyonic Cargo you make us console gamers sad.. ios and android can't and won't replace a true handheld console for the next 3-4 years imo.

your comment really doesn't seem like your much of a gamer if you haven't though about the fact that there hasn't been any console quality games on such platforms (ios/android). yes, its a huge market (casual gaming) but i have all of the tablets/phones (lenovo thinkpad tablet, iphone 3gs, lg g2x, bb playbook, ipad1/2) and the 3DS and PSP still kill them in the gaming aspect. sure they can surf better and make calls better but thats their main purpose.

plus, how useful is that tablet or phone when its battery is dead after playing games on it?

until battery tech gets to the point where a convergence device can really do it all for all day, i'll take my specialized gadgets. and yes, i do carry a real digital camera vs my phones 8mp camera.

also, i personally do not feel that japan's market has any whatsoever correllation to the usa/eu markets; look at the console sales? diff cultures and ideaology for the consumers.

Playdead boss says retail model is 'broken,' awaits digital revolution

people don't realize that downloading 6GB is a lot longer time than waiting an hour for it to install locally.

digital distribution will only be the de facto once we see fiber connections widespread in consumer homes. so no going to be soon. plus, we are now starting to see bandwidth caps on our home internet connections and i can't imagine size of games going down. my Mass Effect 2 download from the PSN took about a week over DSL. i know, dsl but its all i could get in my area (i went from having 20Mbps down/10Mbps up to 5Mbs down/756Kbps up)

so yea, its not just the physical media factor but the bandwidth or lack of combined w/game sizes. its easy to say this when your game is under 1GB. just my .02

PSP2 rumor points to PS3 ports, 'early' PS3-level graphics

Dec 8th 2010 9:22PM (Joystiq)
@Nintendo Tim
i wonder if sony will perhaps add a dlna server feature to it to let it share data to your ps3 and other dlna ready devices (tv, bluray players, phones, etc)?

one thing i do imagine seeing w/the PSP2 is:

portable near console gaming

sync your ps3 controllers to it, hook it up to your hdtv via minihdmi to hdmi cable or prob the usual proprietery cable connevtor and bam!

nearly full PS3 level gaming on a portable that can act like a full home console.

just saying.. that would be sweet!!!
