A new cell processor just for you!

Feb 2nd 2007 9:04AM (Joystiq Playstation)
the cpu is going down in costs (like in any other product over time) so is the gpu (same idea), ram will be about the same for a while..bigger hard drives might actually become cheaper later on as production of larger drives becomes the norm. Bluray will go down SIGNIFICANTLY in the next year. All in all, sony will be making profits from these products within a year or a year and a half...anyway they make a lot of money on accessories for the psp and ps2 (they had like 6 or 7 of the top 10 spots on the game accessories sales list)

19 pages long. maybe Nintendo should acknowledge the problem.

What's inside the Big Box Project?

The problem is that Microsoft is losing less money by returning half-dead systems than actualy fixing their product line.

What's inside the Big Box Project?

FinalDelerium, I dont understand how you can defend microsoft in this case. and since when can you agree to warranty BEFORE buying a product!?

MS is shipping units that they KNOW will fail under NORMAL usage. any other company would have been brought to it's knees and shot for this.

Horror film Blu-ray disc plays only on PS3 [update 1]

Jan 9th 2007 11:04AM (Joystiq)
to all people speaking without knowing the facts:

blu-ray is not a "broken standard" in fact it is almost identical to hd-dvd. the major difference between the two formats is: the physical discs.

in order to gain footholds on a market, companies sometimes ship incomplete products that need updates to work according to spec. this is nothing new. move along.

remember when DVDs came out at first and some disney movies would not play on some players?

Java is used on both hd-dvd and blu-ray, it is a GREAT idea! allows for much better extras and menus than those god awful dvd menus (both from the perspective of the user and the dev.).

also sony owns the rights to something like 50% of all color movies.

PS3 harming Blu-ray acceptance

Dec 7th 2006 3:57PM (Joystiq)
bluray has already won. large install base, larger storage. surpasses the software specs of HDDVD (same codecs, higher bitrates, linear data rate). better interactive content (bd-java). Sony owns movie studios. Sony hardware is already widely used in the movie/entertainment industry. most studios support bluray.

hddvd and bluray suffer from DRM in the exact same way - they are both under the same restrictions (except hd-dvd has/had issues with region locks and studios forced them to fix that). some companies that had signed on with hddvd recently dropped hddvd in favor of bluray.

DevHook now emulating PSP 3.01 firmware

AbleJames your arguments are flawed. Sony is not REMOVING the intended use of their product. They are adding extra value to the device all the while locking down the machine to protect against piracy. Piracy HURTS the end user because developers will avoid the platform if it is too easy to pirate their content. SONY has a responsibility to 1. share holders. 2. clients 3. partners

Legally they have to protect the content of their licensees. Plus they have to increase sales; they cannot remove features from the device to achieve this so I don’t understand where your car manufacturer analogy fits in... if you want to make a proper car analogy it's more like ... SONY is a car dealership and they have problems with their night guards so people steal cars at night so SONY fixes the security issues. The customers are not losing anything (ok not true because there are non-pirate uses but you get the damn point) analogies are stupid because they mask the reality of the issue at hand.

A psp is not a personal computer. If you decide to mod your old sat receiver don’t freak out when you realize they did everything in their power to protect their content.

hey author, quit it with the FUD articles. Let consumers decide the success of these devices without resorting to scare tactics and false information.

Today's hottest game video: Wii-mote plus sweaty hands = SMASH

Nintendo, by adding a wrist strap, obviously acknowledges that it is to be expected that a certain subset of their users would accidently let the remote slip during play. (also note their warning screen to remind people to use the wrist strap.)

Now, if you follow the instructions correctly and you manage to let the remote slip but the wrist strap FAILS TO DO ITS JOB you cannot blame the user! sure some people are flinging the remote at unreasonable speeds, but some are just playing the game normally.

Anyone who follows the directions correctly and still gets a remote in the tv should sue for damages because the product is obviously faulty. (just as you would sue if a railing broke, brakes failed, seat belt failed, air bag failed, life raft failed, smoke alarm failed, bleh)
