Is this the iPhone in the wild?
May 27th 2007 8:50PM (Engadget)and those of us who validate themselves by pretending to be the only person who likes some "less popular" product will soon be struggling to define ourselves... as niche products and buying habits become the norm...
Is this the iPhone in the wild?
May 27th 2007 8:46PM (Engadget)Sure... we can go on Apple's track record... and you can call it either way. Fan's of Apple's elegant hardware design and OSX will swear by it... and people who dislike the pricing, and want more "open" qualities (like the ability to build your own box) will demonize it.
There is, however, some more solid evidence... we can look at Apple's history in terms of repair figures, and the third party evaluation of their customer service (in which Apple consistently ranks in the top of the industry).
But finally, the iPhone, no matter how succesful will (much like the iPod) be subject to personal opinion. There will always be the small percentage of consumers who swear that the iPhone simply can't meet their needs as well as another phone jury-rigged with 3rd party software... They will complain about everyone who likes their iPhone... and all the iPhone people will scorn them for doing so...
but in the end... it will be the better product that enjoys a longer life-cycle... and the better product will live on in some museum's "great design" exhibition...

GTAIV Trailer is Live 4 realz!
Mar 29th 2007 9:04PM (Joystiq Xbox)dumb dumb dumb dumb... first off... it was probably choppy because you didn't let the moview load all the way in your browser before it began playing... that will give the video a choppy playback... try pausing it until the video had loaded...
The character models are way better than saintsrow... the details on the characters faces....
And we're assuming that the game forces you to play as this one character... who knows... maybe the game lets you choose where your character is from... and thusly... which gangs he will interact with...
The level of detail in the city is great... it looks like it will be a big hit for the big white box
Halo 3 Brute video: thoughts, impressions
Dec 20th 2006 2:44PM (Joystiq Xbox)Last I checked, the hype was that GOW was a gorgeous looking game, with an interesting cover mechanic, and a short campaign mode (yes... there was word about the games single played being short before it was released)...
and last I checked... Gears of War ended up being every one of those things...
This is what happens, when we start taking video games too seriously... we lose all the joy that can be had from them... you become the kid that only complains about what each game is "missing" and how it falls short.
And Thoreau would agree that age means nothing... you being an older gamer doesn't mean your wiser... just means you've had more time to figure out ways to be a moron.
So...this is for all you "scoffing" gamers... (the kid who complains because riding a horse in oblivion causes the frame rate to drop... or that the campaign was too short in GOW... or that video games can't compensate for their overall lack of living)... start enjoying other things... read a book... go for a walk... start a business... get a job... fly a kite... then... when you play video games like the rest of us (as a timefiller for that hour between work and chilling with friends) you can enjoy them instead of bitching and scoffing to try and show some sort of "geek superiority".
Electronic Arts estimates it uses only 20% of the PS3's power
Dec 12th 2006 6:47PM (Joystiq Playstation)"I have a friend who's cousin married a dude who works for EA... and he says the PS3 is actually no better than a gamecube... but his boss' fiancee who works for Activision says that there is a hidden graphix card in the PS3 that has more power than one thousand space shuttles... and can actually calculate Pi... and so developers will never reach its potential... in fact... it will form a global defense coalition... becoming self aware at 6:30 PM, August 34th, 2020 and will rename itself skynet..."
Lets face it... the PS3 is newer Tech... the 360 has more games. (sound familiar... ahem... xbox vs PS2)... neither of which will really determine the fate of the system...
The original xbox's horsepower advantage never meant didly to those PS2 hugging RPG fans... and the PS3's library of hundreds of titles with wierd RPG names ("Super Vaalkeryie Symphony: Advantage Wars of the Clocktower") could never sway them from their Halo Lan Party addiction...
Lets face it... as much as we are eager to crown a "winner"... there is no "winner" in console wars... there are competitors (Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft), and those companies who fall by the wayside due to their faulty business moves, not because the other system "beat" them (Sega).
Someone needs to start a peaceful blog... for all fanboys to come together under... maybe www.differentstrokesfordifferentgeeks.com just a suggestion..
I bet that blog would recieve 20% less comments posted due to the fact that it reached only 60% of its awesomeness.... after all... I have a friend who used to work in the marketing department of sega and she said they were...."
Metareview - Call of Duty 3
Nov 10th 2006 3:58AM (Joystiq)But the thing is, they are completely different games... with somewhat varying audiences. There are alot of guys who only go for the old-school real world shooters... quaisi history buffs who get real pumped for a Call of Duty Warfighter, but wouldn't look twice at the Gears of War demo video.
Has anyone else noticed the huge differences in the feel between Call of Duty 2 and 3? The multiplayer has changes significantly, making them feel like very different games. Alot of that is probably due to the new developer... although COD 3 has its ups... it has changes way more than I had wanted.
but like I said, these games are way to different to stack up to one another... like apples and oranges... Apples and PC's...
is anyone else scared that the 360 may become the next dreamcast... I know its bad to think this... but I hope resistance sucks... and the PS3 fails...
