Couple thoughts from an old-school FPS aficionado:
1- KillZone2 had the controls of a drunken monkey. Seriously, they're awful. Apologists love to talk about them being "weighted" and more "realistic," but it's PR garbage to cover sloppy coding. The lag might convey weight, but it definitely isn't realistic, something anyone who carries an M4 or an M249 for a living will tell you.
2- I miss real single-player experiences, not Michael Bay shooting galleries. Don't get me wrong, COD4: MW was a blast, and that nuke going off was just jaw-dropping. But it's changed the precedent for campaigns. Games like Half-Life had atmosphere. Games now just have explosions and lighting effects followed by cheesy, profanity laced dialogue.
3- While I'm lamenting, I also miss arena MP. Modern shooters are all about instant gratification. One or two bullets, and you're dead. What happened to Quake III: Arena and the entire genre? No vehicles, no "realism" but just intense, skill-based online action. Sadly, Unreal Tournament III was a flop, which leaves Halo as the nearest equivalent to arena (and Reach is pretty poor arena game compared to old school UT or Q3A). I knew kids in Q3A that could literally take on entire teams single-handedly and maintain a positive ratio. Now, the one shot, one kill mentality just breeds camping and sniping.
@ Pure Black World Tendency Sounds like NIN, or maybe Stabbing Westward, but definitely not Nickelback.
I don't see what people are complaining about graphics wise. The environments looks terrific and detailed and the lighting looks great too. On a top-end PC, this game will absolutely rock.
