PSA: PlayStation Network content must be re-purchased on Xperia Play

Feb 14th 2011 8:39PM (Joystiq)
This move by Sony makes absolutely no sense because:

1. The only people who are hurt by this are the people who have invested in Sony hardware(PS3, PSP). These people are unlikely to purchase the same games twice, and looking at the majority of comments are actually now less likely to purchase this phone.

2. People who have not bought any recent Playstation products have no incentive to buy this phone specifically, because Playstation Suite will be available on multiple Android devices. If they do buy games over this phone, Sony is still only selling one copy of that game.

If Sony took the position "Hey, lets take the people who have invested the most in our products, including our PSN service, and give them a day one incentive to purchase this phone by having these games be available across these Playstation devices" they could only profit.

They would have the good will and word of mouth from their current customers, and provide more reason to purchase even more games over PSN because the license you are getting would have even more value.

By taking this position, they are punishing consumers exponentially proportionate to how loyal they have been (i.e. the more games you have bought for PSN, the more this decision negatively affects you).

I am stunned that Sony would do this. Who do they expect to buy a second license for the same game? They can only lose money from this. Hopefully they will reconsider this decision before they hamstring another portable platform.

Microsoft has 'nothing to announce at this time' regarding Halo remake rumors

Speaking of anticipated remakes, has anyone heard any recent information about Black Mesa, the Source engine remake for the original Half Life game?

I have been anticipating its arrival ever since i heard about it a year ago, but it seems to have fallen off the radar:(

*fingers crossed*
