PS3 60GB doesn't represent a price drop, it's a clearance sale

They are fudding their own system.

I cant even imagine buying it now, knowing another price drop is likely after this is over.

If you buy a 60 now, and the 80 is likely to drop after the 60's are gone, what would posses someone to buy one now.

I have no clue what sony is thinking anymore.

Rumor: Dell considers gaming handheld

So its going to be rather similiar to the Gp2x or Zodiac.

Kinda the alternates to the mainstream handhelds.

My sister's quest for a Wii

Jan 23rd 2007 12:36AM (Joystiq)
Wii is the system right now...

Actually I found Zelda less than spectacular myself...
But
Wii sports... this is the best marketing move nintendo ever did, packaging this with the system was genius.

I have to go against the grain and say the best game on the console is wii sports.

Heh I was lucky, I got mine online from wallmart and just returned all the junk games they packaged with it.

Im amazed lines are still forming for this with as many as they have delivered.

Why American and Japanese games are different

Save points are one of my pet peeves.

When used correctly and everything is working right, they can work very well to build tension.

When you put save points too far apart or even worse god forbid put them in a pc game, they get awful. Pc games tend in general to have stability problems. Nothing is more frustrating that having a game crash and you havent saved a while.

Games like FFX spaced them almost perfect, about 15 minutes away from each other. FFXII on the other hand had them spaced much further apart and tended not to put them in front of nasty fights leading to 20-30 minutes of wasted time at point, I send the game back to gamefly after about 6 hours because of that junk. I found myself reading guides beforehand to make sure I wouldnt get caught like that, it kinda ruined the game, but wasting big chunks of time isnt fun either.

Save points can be good but should never be more than 20-25 minutes apart at most. And only on extremely stable games.

Lose weight by playing Wii Sports

Jan 16th 2007 9:25PM (Joystiq)
Matt it doesnt quite work like that. Weight loss is dependant on alot more than just direct calories burned.

When you excercise it increases your metabolism for a while after you stop, your body is still in accelerated mode.

Lose weight by playing Wii Sports

Im trying a video game diet just to see what happens.

Ive got Wii sports, eye toy groove and kinetic, and DDr.

DDR wins easily for most calories burned. Eye toy kinetic does slightly better than wii sports and groove.

But they all do burn calories, it shouldnt even be a question. Its not proffesional gym quality but it does do more than you would think.

Hoping for better in-game stories next year

Dec 31st 2006 11:43PM (Joystiq)
A game that tries to have a story should have a good one. But sometimes a game tries to overtell it and it interferes with the game. Xenosaga anyone? When you can play 2 minutes without running into another 30 minute cutscene, its interfering. Dont get me wrong, I actually liked Xenosaga, but really..

Now FFX and Oblivion both had pretty good balance, with FFX leaning more to story and Oblivion more to action.

Alot of non-rpgs manage to get decent to good stories, Shenmue, Halo, Halflife 2. This is of course all console and PC, where you tend to sit down for long playsessions.

Handheld its a bit different, its not that you cant tell a story but you have to do it in very small chunks.

I dont really know how to say this other than its nice when the story is good and works with the game, but it can be a real annoyance when its tacked on, overdone, or nonsensical.

Groupthink and Zelda

Nov 19th 2006 12:20AM (Joystiq)
IT seems like it is the graphics got too heavily weighed.

This could be a little problem for the wii, but honestly that is going to be a big factor for the wii can they get over the graphical hurdle. Might as well tackle that fight early.

By the way, I think Wii is going to be this generations console war winner.

The legality of bundles

Nov 11th 2006 12:35AM (Joystiq)
What im pretty sure is illegal is not taking returns on the unwanted parts of the product.

If I was really determined to get the Wii, I would just return the games that I didnt want. They have to take them back.

At least in NY.
