Addon Spotlight: Prat (and PitBull_Prat)

Jul 23rd 2007 6:45AM (WoW)
Well I have many add ons on my wow folder (about 100 I suppose), including Prat. With all those add ons my maximum memory usage never goes above 50mb so I think it's quite low. As for only Prats memory usage, I have no idea but I think its pretty low since everything it does is pretty simple yet effective ^^.

WoWLinuxTools shows progress on open source WoW

I don't know about stability (Wine has yet to crash for me when playing, even thought i'm running it with beryl), but framerate loss isn't THAT bad. I mean, sure, it's noticeabl, but doesn't make the game unenjoyable.

I'ld say the framerate suffers about a 10-15% overall, greater loss with older computers and with crowded areas ofcourse. The loss of framerate would also be affected by your distro of choice.

Doubt it works with passive buffs like soul link or so. But that slowfall one was fun =)

The Burning Crusade -- hardware upgrade time?

Dec 21st 2006 3:51PM (WoW)
When I first got wow, I was still playing with my 6600GT,3000+ Sempron with 768mb low clocked memory. And it was horrible. Specially end game raiding.

Now I'm playing on quite a better machine ^^ Intel C2D E6600,7900GT and 2gb of memory. And it indeed does look like 2gb is the sweet spot for wow and you can still do a few other processes in the background (if you are like me and multi task while playing) :)

Breakfast Topic: Patching!

Nov 24th 2006 8:54AM (WoW)
Well you would think that the later you start downloading the patch the better, since its a torrenting system they are using. Wonder what's up with that. Maybe many ppl block the upload so people can't get the data fast or probably blizzard trackers getting hammered and giving bad rates to everyone.. Dunno

Blizz unbans Cedega users

Nov 24th 2006 4:49AM (WoW)
Well I can run WoW on linux pretty nicely on my current setup (Intel C2D E6600, 7900GT) on opengl mode with about 50fps normally. Ofcourse it's higher on windows but it's still something. Too bad wine won't run on PS3. Ever. Its PPC arcitechture (AFAIK) and Wine/Cedega (same core, different developers and you have to pay for Cedega) only support X86 processors. So too bad for ps3 users wanting to play WoW on their PS3 :P
