1080i WILL work but only over HDMi or DVI (w/ HDMI-DVI cable or converter) that was always my understanding of it anyway, but it's been confirmed (by a friend with a Jap PS3) so if you have that option (remember HDMI on PS3 only works if you have HDCP according to the manual) you're good to go.
Ok you asked if we wanted you to try anything so I figured I'd give it a go as I've heard conflicting theories on the subject. If I have a TV that has a DVI connector and not and HDMI can I use an HDMI-DVI cable and still watch Blu-Ray movies at 720p and 1080i? I assumed it would work but someone told me that any HDMI output from the PS3 would shut down Blu-Ray playback if not connected to an HDCP enabled set and my DVI conenctor on my TV doesn't do HDCP.
