Guitar Hero 5: October DLC

Sep 28th 2009 3:39PM (Joystiq)
Triumph - Lay It On The Line will be an incredible song for lead guitar and drums. It has a fantastic guitar solo that is fairly long and should be moderately challenging. The vocal range is quite high, I imagine many will need to sing it an octave lower. Rik Emmett was one of the truly great (but largely unknown) rock guitarists of the late 70's/early 80's. Part of this was because Triumph was a Canadian band that wasn't named Rush. Part of it was because by the time they started receiving some exposure in the US, they had dissolved into a softer, ballad-heavy band that allowed synths to intrude into their raw rock sound (like so many bands of that era). Lay It On The Line is arguably Triumph at their prime. I hope you all give this song a listen ahead of it being released to DLC. It is definitely a diamond in the rough and the kind of DLC I'd like to see more of. My most anticipated GH/RB download ever.

Jump for Guitar Hero: Van Halen's full track list

Aug 5th 2009 8:34PM (Joystiq)
Definitely some great songs here. But the game still seems like a disaster in the making. The version of Van Halen featured hasn't released a new album in over 25 years. No Sammy era songs. No Micheal on bass. David's become a total fruitcake. Eddie's become a total prick. Alex ... who knows what he's doing anymore. Songs from other artists seem disconnected. Arrives just a couple of days before Christmas. VH may beat Aerosmith for quickest GH to the $10 bin.

Pachter: $299 PS3 would outsell 360, put Sony back in the game

This guy really has not been very accurate on forecasting this generation of consoles.

Yascombe: Haze's script is over 1,000 pages long

1000 pages of script ... finally a use for all that capacity on Blu-Ray.

Gamers wage war on Mass Effect basher's book, garner apology [update]

At least she admitted she was wrong. As a long-time Fox News fan, I have to say I'm peeved at the channel for not having the class to retract the idiotic comments their so-called in studio experts made after the segment. This was the kind of one-sided, unprofessional BS that drove me away from other news channels many years ago (e.g., those old enough to remember the pulpit CNN gave to Tipper Gore re: music lyrics -- BTW, nice job Tipper, things have really cleaned up there LOL).

Pigskin Metareview: NCAA 08 vs All-Pro 2K8 vs Madden 08

A reader at IGN? Wow... I've come to expect more from Joystiq.

As to the copy-paste comment, simply ridiculous and couldn't be farther from the truth. Obviously they didn't copy-paste the NFL license, or the players, or the modes, or the crib, or the first person football. Compare the two graphically and they obviously made improvements since 2K5. Compare the animations and they obviously added a lot. 2K8 is the beginning of a football juggernaut that will be ready to blow Madden away when exclusivity is gone for 2K11. I'll happily do my part to fund it, as 2K8 in it's bare bones mode is much better than anything EA has done with Madden to date.

Nintendo's new Zelda falls flat

@107 -- All of the screenshots you linked could easily be done on XBox or PS2. The color palette in each is bland as heck. I fail to see how this proves him wrong, rather it makes his case very well.

Nintendo's new Zelda falls flat

Nov 12th 2006 12:37AM (Joystiq)
This is the Chicken Little thread. Someone aims a few pieces of criticism at Zelda and Wii, it's as if the sky is falling and the fanboys have to hold it up. It's going to be a loooonnng next generation for Nintendo fanboys if you're already getting this upset over comments about graphics and awkward controls...
