Erm, I dunno, they still seem pretty similar. If you wanna line up the backstories for a point-for-point comparison, then yes, they seem pretty different. But a quick glance makes this look a lot like a game in the Fallout universe.

The world has more-or-less ended because of:
A. A nuclear holocaust
B. An asteroid

You wake up after it all happens in:
A. The future
B. The future

The world is overrun with:
A. Raiders and mutants
B. Bandits and mutants

Goal is to:
A. Somehow survive in the messed up scenario
B. Somehow survive in the messed up scenario

I can't speak for every gamer out there, but personally, I usually compare games and call them clones when they feel like an answer to something else. This, admittedly, doesn't feel like and answer, per se, to Fallout, but the similarities are there.

You guys are funny. Like, Danny DeVito as Frank Reynolds funny. Like, show me what I want for Christmas, like Mafia II, and then give it to someone else. References!

Come on, duder, think this through. You said yourself that the beginning of the word only needs to SOUND like a vowel in order for the 'an' to qualify. Well, look at all the other possibilities; we're not idiots, you know. If 'an NES' doesn't look right, your not looking at it right. I don't know anyone who says NES as a word, like 'Ness,' they say it as an acronym, like 'En-Ee-Ess...' you know, letter N, letter E, letter S?

Hence, an NES.
