@wrongThinker Backwards compatability is a value add to a system. At launch, the software libraries for devices are limited; even now the 3DS only has a handful of software titles. That's where backwards compatability helps: It allwos you to supplement on your new hardware your old games. The idea that you can't play your games on whatever system is arcane. You can play your old DOS games on your current PC with emulation... so why can't your brand new Playstation portable device play the games that preceeded it? GAMES THAT CAME OUT THIS YEAR! At launch/early on, the PS3 played PS2 (&PSX) games, the 360 played Xbox 1 games, the Wii played Gamecube games, The 3DS played DS games, the DS played gameboy advance games....etc. I still play GBA games on my DS and SSBM on my Wii. Sony essentially called the death of the UMD in 2009, it has had 2 years to get its act together!
In addition, I have already paid for a license to play these games. Sony has my dollars, I 'm asking them to take more of my dollars so that I can get my games on the fancy new device. Instead, they say no to longterm fans, milking us so that we can reobtain the games that we already have. Nintendo does this too, and it is not something to be commended. Its not like there are huge development teams porting this software! Ditto goes for Sony. Why can't I play Lumines on Vita? Crisis Core?
@frickandfrak Also, the cross game voice chat is appreciated, but when would you use it? When you're sitting on your couch... and your Xbox is right there that does it on your TV? And knowing Sony, something won't work....
