Bring your pals to The Old Republic with a newly extended Friends Trial

You really need to ask?

While Eve was mentioned, there are even sandpark MMO's that give you that feeling. WoW's phases are a excellent example.

Another would be Warhammer. The RvR conflict affects the world around you. Hell, your city is getting sieged. There isnt much more "realm effecting" then that, and guess who did it? PLAYERS.

Aion? The entire Abyss is effected by Players actions. What I do, what my faction does, what my guild does has a direct effect on the world around me.

Hell, its actually hard to think of a MMO that *dosent* effect the world around you, except for SWTOR. Ilum has absolutely no effect on the universe. Your entire story has absolutely no effect on anything visual in the world to another player.

All your choices are masks. All are equally meaningless, with the illusion of choice. Pick a option and you get LS or DS points, but the *end outcome* is always the same. You may be required to kill more people for DS, or save a few for LS.. but in the end your still on the dark council for example. All those choices leading up to the very end had absolutely no meaning.

Canceled already.

Decent single player game, horrible multiplayer game where your actions have absolutely no effect on the world around you. (You killed that guy? I let him live, oh well, difference dosent matter!)

Breaking down Guild Wars 2's character creator

"Think carefully about each, for they will have long-lasting consequences."

Which are... what?

No MMO yet has had any real consequences from your initial "story", so I'm curious as to what these consequences are. No mention was made in the article as to what they might be.

As another poster said, does it go so far as say.. picking Nobility for Human would perhaps grant you followers for certain quests, while the street rat would have thieves helping, etc?

If its just a personal "backstory" / lore type thing, then its really inconsequential to the majority of MMO players.

ArenaNet expands on microtransactions in Guild Wars 2

@Ehra

Personally your missing a few key points. He literally specifically said it woudnt just be vanity items, you just arent reading it correctly.

" it’s never OK for players who spend money to have an unfair advantage over players who spend time."

That's the specific quote. Its the same in any "P2W" game on the market. Anyone can *eventually* get that shiny new gun, or sword, or whatever. Or you can simply spend money and get it now, thus putting you far ahead of the guy grinding it out.

" They should also be able to spend money on account services and on time-saving convenience items. "

What do you think a "time-saving convenience item" is exactly? A exp increase is almost certain. A guild increase is almost certain. Etc.

So your saying that someone who spends $50 (tossing out a #) and hits 80 a month before you do, that it isnt P2W? That his group who has cleared all the content, and has the best gear weeks ahead of you and is decimating you in WvW, that's ok?

I'm buying the game, and I'll probably be that guy dropping $100+ on it to get every single advantage I can get, simply because that's how MMO's work. Especially MMO's claiming to be a "E-Sport". You do what you have to do to stay competitive and be at the top. If its cash, its cash. If its time, its time.

ArcheAge besieges us with a new warfare trailer

@Space Cobra

You never played Shadowbane, or Lineage 2?

Place your siege camp (banestone in SB), city lights up for siege time, capture/destroy the internal crystal, you win rights.

Agreed.

My Son loves this game with a passion. However, finding the figures has been neigh impossible. Good luck if you want Whirlwind or Night Elf, etc..

BioWare responds to SWTOR's Ilum exploits

Nah, this has nothing to do with battlegrounds.

A better one liner would be:

Bioware copied WAR's ORvR lakes with the same "circle jerk round we go" method of capping objectives, thus making killing players actually prevent progress.

Reid on Reddit: SWTOR fans ask him anything and everything

Better than the endless Rift articles tbh.

Though would love to see more Archeage stuff posted, but cant have everything! :)

I'll admit its getting a bit old. I wish Bioware would shut up and actually fix shit instead of endlessly talking about fixing it. Cuz they've been talking about fixing it for over a year now for some features.

Star Wars: The Old Republic to receive combat log parsing, other analysis features

@Valkesh

So dont play with those people?

Again, even WITHOUT a Meter, people are already making the "best" builds, and if you dont have it, they wont group you. How would adding a Meter make that any worse?

The problem people have is with other players. However, your playing a MMO... which involves thousands of other people. If you dont like a certain group, DONT PLAY WITH THEM. Its not really that hard fella's.

We use meters to simply see if we can be more effective for ourselves. Not to judge others, or require certain people to use certain builds. Personally, I would like to be able to see what my DPS is in certain rotations, what's the highest, what's the second highest.. how can I get the best DPS while maximizing threat, etc etc.

[Updated] On the twelfth day of giveaways, KingsIsle gave to me...

I'd give it to my daughter, who absolutely adores the game.

I find its a safe, effective way to introduce her into the "gaming culture" as compared to other MMO's out there :)
