Sure! Don't you remember when Sony was trying to push their MiniDisc players and then their original pre-iPod digital music players? Everyone demanded MP3 support and they supported it right away... NOT!!!!

Let's not forget that Sony is a) extremely arrogant and b) muzzled by their music & movie divisions. It would not surprise me one bit to see them deny users DivX, XVid, and other codec support, because some elements within the company will insist that these formats promote piracy and make users less likely to pay for content.
