THQ lays off 33 across Kaos Studios and Volition

@LEONLEONLEON First off, none of the people at Volition had anything to do with Homefront. Second, people are losing their livelihoods here -- congratulations on being a dick.

Check out Epic's Unreal Engine GDC tech demo (while you can)

Mar 4th 2011 4:38PM (Joystiq)
@omgJOHN Given that Infinity Blade can run on an iPhone, I actually wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if this tech demo were running on current gen consoles. They really do have an impressive engine on their hands.

Microsoft Research shows the possible future of split-screen technology

Feb 28th 2011 2:44PM (Joystiq)
Wasn't there talk of this sometime last year when a patent by Sony was revealed showing a way to possibly do full-screen "splitscreen" using 3D technology?

Mortal Kombat refused classification in Australia

What I don't understand is that there's no 18+ rating, but yet there's still a 15+ rating..."15 and older" encompasses "18 and older". If they're not going to allow mature games, they should make the rating 15-17, not 15+.

Homefront's 'Resistance' trailer preps us for the second American revolution

@ghostadv It would never happen, but that would actually be pretty amazing.

Duke Nukem Forever 'Balls of Steel' Edition: Is this some kind of bust?

So, where's that sexy controller they showed in the trailer? I know it was an in-game asset, but I would've paid buttloads of cash for that controller alone. They're missing out on a great opportunity.

@(Unverified) They couldn't do the video documentary because they would've had to charge $300 just to cover the cost of discs, and then they wouldn't have all fit in the box set.

Activision to reduce headcount by around 500

Couldn't they have just put all those people on their new MMOFPS - CoD:WoW?

PS3 hackers make Modern Warfare 2 'unplayable,' Infinity Ward cannot patch a fix

Jan 19th 2011 1:08PM (Joystiq)
@DeadInside Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer. Sure, GeoHot may not have been looking for a job with them, but if you have the best hackers patching up holes in your security, nobody else is going to be able to break in. That's why people who write viruses that cripple entire infrastructures usually end up working for the government or a private security firm. That's just business. You're always better off to have your biggest competitor working for you, rather than against you. Remove the competition, monopolize the market (where in this case, the market is your console's security.)

@ihaveascreenname Also, if you want to fight hacking, hire hackers on your security team to find all the vulnerabilities before the general public can. If GeoHot worked for Sony, he'd be making a steady paycheck, and they'd have a secure system. But that's beside the point.
