Warriors QQ, devs say "wait till 70 kthx"

Jan 30th 2007 5:39AM (WoW)
I have a 63 Nelf warrior and I just found it more and more boring to level him and ever since I started levelling in outland I kept wishing I was there with my hunter or mage alt as it all kinda felt slower and harder than usual (not everyone has tier gear).

So now I've given up on the warrior and I am levelling up my hunter (I'll be back in outland within a week) and playing around with all classes when I'm bored until I got one that I am truly happy with, no point getting frustrated with a toon, I think just have fun another way and play with another class (and get some due revenge on clothies).

MS in-game ad master plan: Less vomit, more BK

Jun 13th 2006 6:52AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Real life has "in-life ads" everywhere and all our appliances have a brand logo on the front.

If games are getting more realistic I have no problem with billboards and a few logos around my 3d space (if that is what they mean) and I like Burger King's whoppers, their flame grilled burgers are tasty.

360 BC update "in the next few weeks"

Jun 3rd 2006 2:29PM (Joystiq)
Getting fed up with info on 360 updates that are not here "right about now"

I don't care to hear about the delayed updates which we don't have, all I want to know is to be told when it is actually available to download.

The videos, info, blogs about the "coming" spring update are putting me off checking my favourite blogs (including Major Nelson).

If whatever they are working on is not working or properly bug tested I don't want to know, it is their job/problem.

Project managers get paid to hear this stuff and deal with the issues and disappointments with deadlines not being met. I am the customer and should not even be bothered to know all the mistakes that are being made, it only makes the company and product look bad.

Joytech answers LCD critics

May 2nd 2006 10:58AM (Joystiq Xbox)
>Please don't compare to our competitor's models!
Why not? We are the customers and will do whatever we like. If the product is good the company should welcome comparisons with competitors otherwise there is obviously something to worry about.

>JOYTECH have NOT advertised nor led anyone
>to believe that this Monitor is Hi Def. It is NOT

I stopped reading after this. Wow, PR professionalism at its best if I was a betting man I would bet he/she gets paid more than the average wage aswell.

I have been happy with past Joytech products for my consoles (wireless pads and leads) but I (and I think most of us) will NEVER buy a LCD display device for my 360 if it does not support HD.

Early HD DVD flicks to be 1080p

Apr 14th 2006 5:11AM (Engadget)
Lovely, I'm in the UK and all HDTVs in our shops labelled (HD-Ready) do not support 1080p but only up to 1080i.

Nice kick in the teeth for early "adopters" since there is absolutely no HD media to watch over here yet, they will have spent a lot of money only to now be told it is not full HD compatible.

This is not the way to make HDTV roll-out popular, I hope there is going to be a consumer backlash.

And the fact that HD-DVD supports 1080p does not mean it is going to look as good as 1080p on Blu-Ray, more storage means less compression which means more visual information and (if done properly) less visual artefacts.

IGN reveals new Revolution tech specs

Mar 30th 2006 7:29AM (Joystiq)
I believe we're getting what we deserve from Nintendo, with the Gamecube they gave us a console with more 3d power than a PS2 but without DVD playback and we still bought more PS2s even though the PS2 3d capabilities are inferior to the Gamecube, also since the PS2 has been supported by 3rd party software developers they have been able to optimise PS2 code to better 3d (eg:RE4 and GT4).

If the GC sold better the same support would have meant a similar optimisation in code evolution but it didn't happen.

So here we are, this time N probably is thinking since the DS which spec is similar to a N64 with a touch screen is selling so well compared to the PSP they might as well migrate the same strategy to the home consoles, less power=cheaper to manufacture=cheaper to sell=more units=more revenue.

Also if the Revolution ends up not being an expensive console it potentially becomes an addition to any 360 pr PS3 setup.

I have all current gen consoles plus a 360 and will definately pick up a Revolution aswell.

Geometry Wars' unprecedented success

Mar 27th 2006 5:56AM (Joystiq)
And it is also one of the cheaper games, if I remember right only 400 points.

Shame on the lesser games which want us to shell out 800 points or more to buy them. If they charge less I am sure more people would end up buying them.

Hope XBL Street Fighter will cost 400 points too, almost everybody would buy it then.

Final Fantasy XI release dated

Jan 27th 2006 3:18PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I played it for over a week many hours a day and stopped now, will uninstall it from the HDD and free up the 5 gig it takes up if I don't play it for another week. I will not be one of the people that will pay for this "game", its more like work, not a game.

What I didn't like most about it is the very slow pace and the penalty of 300 EXP if/when you died making sure that you will spend many hours playing this game if I wanted to level up my character.

Everything in this game is slow, the fights, the levelling up, the finding your way around (very little help given to new players) and geared to making a player spend the most time in this game so that they can squeeze as much subscription time/money out of you.

The graphics even though are PS2-like at least can be displayed in the higher resolution the 360 is capable of (I use 720p) but the graphics tearing is very visible and annoying.

I could go on and on about its shortcomings but in the week I played it I enjoyed it until I realised this style of gaming is not suited to my lifestyle. In order to get anywhere I would have to spend more time out of my life that I am prepared to do.

FFXI has put me off MMORPG for a while, I would not mind giving WOW a try to see the difference but without buying the game I don't think I can try it so there is the end of it for me.

FFXI beta hits the UK

Jan 16th 2006 6:48AM (Joystiq Xbox)
Yes it took a long time to install and the playonline is clunky compared to Xbox Live but at least it gives you the ability to play FFXI alongside PC and PS2 owners in the future (I think the beta servers are 360 only).

If you don't like MMORPGs no point going any further, it takes time and work to get going but I am enjoying it a great deal just like a lot of other players on the server (it is busy with activity), very slow going though.

You will absolutely need a USB keyboard as communicating with the pad is very cumbersome.

I used to think that typing as a method of communicating in a game would be bad but actually I find it aurally pleasing, most of the people on Xbox Live I have heard talk aren't worth listening to and some are just plain annoying.
