BioWare: 13% of Mass Effect players use default hero, 18% play female Shepard

Jul 20th 2011 12:55AM (Joystiq)
Well I use his default facial features. I have no desire to make some weird looking Shepard. Doesn't make the game any more or less enjoyable either way. I'd rather just keep him as is. I change his first name to my own and I custom made his background and class, but I don't have any desire to try and change his face or waste my time trying to make him look like me or something.

I would play as a female Shepard my second go-through like I used to do with Kotor, but given the whole "carrying your progress" thing, it's a lot more difficult to actually do that properly. Instead I just do a single playthrough and leave it be.

Team Fortress 2 demade into a 2D beat-em-up

For the record, I'd be more than happy to drop $5 or $10 on a decent length, quality old school title using a newer franchise. Codename Gordon, Halo Zero, and Portal Flash were all pretty entertaining for free games. Take that a step further and I'm sure you could do something fun with it.

Just don't build them for the arcade and make them impossibly difficult -_-

PSN Tuesday: Limbo, New Vegas' Old World Blues

@AutobotIronhide

Relative to everything else on PSN? Not from what I've heard. No. I don't think a 4 hour sidescroller, regardless of quality, is worth $15 with everything else you can get for the same price or less.

From everything I hear, Limbo is a great game. But I can't justify spending $15 on a 4 hour sidescroller. $10? Absolutely. But when Pac Man DX and the PixelJunk games are all $10, the precedent for the downloadable value proposition has been set.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary trades avatar armor for pre-order

@broken 4th wall

In the midst of making judgement calls and personality analyses, you've missed the point: $40 is an acceptable price for Halo Anniversary, and it's not at all surprising that after the ODST debacle they're not choosing to sell it at $60. However, given the lack of a real multiplayer mode, and given that this is actually a 10 year old game, holding out game content for retailer specific pre-order bonuses is anti-consumer. In other words, it's a dick move.

I played Halo CE before Live ever existed. I would play split screen with friends on a regular basis, and weekend LAN parties were a regular thing. I love this game. While the story in the campaign was never anything impressive without the added fiction of the prequel novel, it was extremely fun and I love it to this day. I go back and play the campaign with the PC copy I bought from time to time.

So to me, when they try and take stuff out of the game and whore it out to GameStop, as a consumer I'm offended. Cosmetic additions? Sure. Avatar items? Sure. Vehicle skins? Okay. But a Skull is unacceptable in my opinion. That's part of gameplay. I'm not "ungrateful" because I feel that way, but I feel that simply rolling over an accepting that makes you a bad consumer.

@broken 4th wall

Don't tell me something that blatantly isn't true, then tell me I'm ungrateful and expect a happy-go-lucky response out of me. I thought it was pretty simple. Guess not.

"i'm surprised that, after what they did with ODST, they aren't trying to charge $60 for this as well."

After all the average reviews and under-performing sales (which were only as high as they were due to the Reach Beta and Halo 3 maps which they were withholding from Marketplace), you're actually *surprised* they're not trying to pass off another $40 product as a $60 game? Wow. You really are a gullible tool of a consumer. How sad.

There is no Reach engine for campaign. It's the EXACT SAME GAME running underneath. Realize that. They just copied Reach assets over everything. For multiplayer, they didn't even bother to do that. They just copied over Reach multiplayer like they did with ODST (minus all of the existing maps and DLC from Reach), and remade 6 multiplayer maps and 1 Firefight map from Halo 1. There isn't any actual Halo CE multiplayer, which is ridiculous in and of itself.

So yea, $40 for a SINGLE game from 10 years ago which only last 5-10 hours and doesn't have a real multiplayer mode is pushing it as it is. I understand you live in a world where you're either a kid getting your games bought for you or a 30-something year old with disposable income, but a lot people aren't like that. We don't just throw our money away. And to take basic content out of a game and put it on a one time use code for a retailer specific pre-order is adding insult to injury.

Assassin's Creed Wii U title isn't Revelations

@Ospov

Most people didn't play them, they had very different gameplay, and they were done by different studios. They haven't affected the potential saturation at all. They honestly don't count.
