The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword preview: Swinging for the skies

Jun 12th 2011 2:17PM (Joystiq)
@Enosoma

Actually, from what I've read the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess had been in development for so long that Iwata decided to also release it for the Wii as a launch title with the motion controls. Nintendo felt that instead of disappointing some consumers by delaying the game and only releasing it on just the Wii or the Gamecube, they would instead release it on both consoles to hopefully satisfy everyone and one could conclude make a lot more money. It was mirrored on the Wii because obviously over 90% of the population is right handed making things more intuitive for the majority, which sucked for me because I'm not. Really, it didn't make that much of a difference though. It would only make sense that they'd eventually release Skyward Swords the WiiU as well.

I think it's pretty obvious by the comments here that a lot of gamers have a love/hate relationship with the Zelda series. The Legend of Zelda transformed me into a fan over two decades ago and although The Adventure of Link left me scratching my head in confusion shortly thereafter, I've always looked forward to each new release. Every title has been unique and sometimes radically different from previous releases. This approach has obviously gained a huge loyal fan base, but has also left a lot of people frustrated not knowing what they'll get the next time around. 25 years of being consistent with inconsistency.

So, here we are again. We're all wondering what this next game will be like. Will it be the title we're all looking for? Not likely. Some are drawn to a more serious/dark approach, while others prefer a more whimsical/charming approach.

The debate as to which approach is best is one that will rage on for a long time and as a fan base we'll all just have to agree to disagree at times. I do think it's inevitable that Skyward Sword will end up on WiiU at some point. The announcement trailer seemed to hint at that, didn't it? I don't understand this approach from Nintendo though, but by releasing Twilight Princess on two consoles they must feel justified to possibly do it once again for some reason.

Disney confirms layoffs at Split/Second dev Black Rock

@8bitartist

I totally agree that the rubberbanding isn't much of a factor if you approach the races the correct way. I was just bringing it up because bioadam mentioned it two posts before mine and I recall seeing quite a few posts complaining about it in the past, even though it isn't really warranted. Split/Second has a lot of entertainment value and I can't think of too many other racing games that compare to it.

I don't know, $17 on Amazon seems fairly uber cheap to me. Pick it up if you have the funds. You won't regret the decision.

This decision doesn't make much sense to me. Both Split/Second and Pure are two of the better racing games that I've played. The approach by Black Rock Studio to develop titles that are captivating and just simply fun to play makes me a fan. While other racing titles seem to focus too much on just visuals and features such as unlockables and modifications, this group gets it right by focusing on the most important thing, gameplay. Sure, there are gripes about rubberbanding in Split/Second, but I've found those instances minimal and the game overall is great. It's a shame that this is happening to the studio and I'm with the rest of you who hope a second Split/Second game sees the light of day. Hopefully it is as fun and successful as the first. With a limited amount of resources after layoffs it could be interesting. Good luck to those laid off!

Madden 12 cover athlete vote expanded to 32-team bracket

Mar 21st 2011 1:43PM (Joystiq)
Lowly Seahawks? Now, I understand they snuck into the playoffs last year with a losing record and that's kind of weak, but to call them lowly is just dumb. There were 20 other teams more deserving of that term this past season. Bills, Bengals, Broncos, Panthers. That's lowly.

I'm not sure what I think of the 12th Man on the cover of Madden considering the curse, but let's not joke about earthquakes. I live right outside of Seattle and we're plenty aware of that possibility already.

007: Blood Stone is 050 percent off on Amazon

Thanks for the feedback CamelCamelCamel. It's strange how it seems everyone from review sites to gamers have such different opinions on Bloodstone. I actually still own the old N64 Goldeneye and play it from time to time, but I'm wrestling with this decision. I'm a fairly big Bond fan, so I'm sure I'd find things to like about both titles, but I just want to make sure I pick up the better of the two games. I'm leaning towards Goldeneye right now, even though the graphics might be lacking.

Would you pick this game up or the new version of Goldeneye for the Wii? I've heard a lot of good things about Goldeneye and have heard this game only takes about 5 hours on Campaign to complete.

0. I was 69 days old the day it was released in theaters. 28 years later and I'm still waiting for my own light cycle.
