Widget Watch: Leopard server monitor

Aug 7th 2006 5:25PM (TUAW.com)
Having this widget check on the current computer is convienent, but what would be REALLY nice is if it checked on systems over the network or online. And while Apple's page nor you guys really say if it does that, I'm thinking that the server.example.com would suggest it does.

Cellda: cell phone, not cel-shaded, Zelda

I love it. Previously I stole my sister's RAZR to play as I got the 'INVALID JAVA ERROR DIVIDE BY ZERO' message on my Cingular 8125, but now it's fixed and runs great.

Here's my question. is it possible to remap the keys? My phone is WinMo 5.0 based, and lacks a normal number pad. I can walk around and swing the sword fine, but I have no way to trigger the B button. There's no way within the game itself to do this, but do any of you java awesome people have an idea about reconfiguring that?

Yes Martha, he looks Bill Gates-ish

For those looking for a translation, the Japanese girl basically exchanges formalities with with Mr. Mac, and then right at the end she says "ne, ne, ne, dare? Otaku boku nai?" which is pretty much "Hey, who's the dork?"

If someone wants to get picky about 'otaku' not quite meaning dork, I say it's close enough and the curious can hit up Wikipedia.

Just say no to Windows

Uhm, minor typo guys. "He thinks that Apple should rush out Leopard, so that they can be even further ahead of Apple."

But yeah, I agree. A mini as cheap and powerful as it is, could we advertise the thing?

WinXP on a Mac Contest is Over; Dual-Booting Success

sweeeeet. Very sweet indeed.

My only worry is that doing this would void the warranty. It would stink to drop the change on an AppleCare plan but because of this stunt, you have to pay for the trouble. Arg.

iEmulator update with audio support and better VPC profile importing

You should be able to pull off all of that on the most basic Powerbook just fine, Hank. Although you do know that you can get Office natively and skip the emu? It'll probably be cheaper too.

Reader video: Front Row on a Mac mini

Oct 25th 2005 1:29AM (TUAW.com)
here's something unique: I'm no programmer, but if this was intended to be an iMac only toy, wouldn't it glitch out on computers that run a resolution different from the iMac? But nope, I played around with resolution settings, and I'm already on a widescreen powerbook, and it still works. Hmmmm. Oh, I think that the I CAN'T TALK TO ITUNES is related to iTunes itself. ...and update for which was just released. Gonna get that and see what happens. my 1ghz titanium G4 runs it fine, but it feels sluggish otherwise, I think I'm gonna put everything back the way it was. -------!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ON THAT NOTE, ANYONE DOING THIS: NEVER REPLACE SYSTEM FILES. MOVE THEM. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-------- I don't know if anyone pointed this out but for God's sake trust me on this one. I already had whateveritwas.framework file in that folder, so I moved it and put in the new one. another tip: give one of the items a color label so you can tell it apart.

Apple trademarks "Vingle"

Maybe Apple is going for what they (supposedly) wanted to originally do with the Newton. A 'total information access, anywhere' sort of thing. Of course the newton was made in the days when an internet connection wirelessly was all but unheard of.

FrontRow seems custom made for the Mac mini

The "Two DV outputs" thing is only for the VERY high resolution Apple display, not any other screen. It has to do with the number of pixels. An HDTV really is just a big monitor running a monitor-ish resolution. There aren't more pixels, they're just bigger. However, Apple's big screen doesn't have bigger pixels than a normal monitor, just a SHITLOAD more of them. =P Thus giving it incredibly high resolution and making it VERY useful for professional work. The More You Know, kids.

Ballmer admits a rip-off?

Sep 27th 2005 5:21PM (TUAW.com)
Did it ever occur to him that people MIGHT not talk to him about Mac or Linux...since he JUST HAPPENS to be Mr. Microsoft? I mean, if I'm talking to Ballmer, I'm not gonna be like 'HAY MACS AND PENGUINS, WHUT.' It's called 'talking to people about stuff you know they like and are knowledgeable about' and it falls under the category of "politeness/schmoozing 101."
