@TheChezDispenser If it's old-school Wizardry (and I think it is), an afternoon might get you halfway through the first dungeon level, if you aren't murdered first.
@bfiggins Aw, and I totally forgot that I sank a couple years into Phantasy Star Online. I'd been playing games for two decades by that point, but PSO really opened up my gaming world. My console was no longer a producer of content to be consumed and discarded - it was now a gateway to a world of experiences, lobbies full of new people from around the world, and constantly-changing adventures and gameplay.
Wow, it's hard to decide which was my favorite. As far as hours I put into them, Sonic Adventure, Record of Lodoss War, Armada, and Tokyo Xtreme Racer are all way up there. Right now, I'm playing Floigan Brothers, and it's interesting - a big adventure game set in one yard with two happy-go-lucky characters. It's a nice change of pace.
Overall, I'm going to say Sonic Adventure 2. When I got the game, I was working as staff at a summer camp, and having a rough summer. Sonic Adventure 2 didn't just distract me from that - it made me laugh out loud, exuberant in the thrill of leaping into space, plunging through the air, slamming into a rail and shooting off in some new direction. The game definitely had some long, slow parts...but those moments of sheer joy made it all worth it.
