I believe there were issues with conflicts or possible future conflicts within the mod. Without any input from the modders themselves any issues that crop up would be botched back together by the compiler and so on. Basically not only was credit not originally given, but the mod itself was not up to the standards of the original modders.
I think it's fairplay really. These are really tight communities and they survive through the quality of their output. Added to which, lack of appropriate credit is hated in these places. I've got a couple things up on Fallout Nexus, which is fine, but I've received no credit. In the long run it doesn't really matter at all, but it's the principle of it.
