A Wii Thanksgiving test on the family: Part 2

Nov 25th 2006 1:17PM (Joystiq)
The Wii has been a large success over at my household. My dad absolutely loved it. I overheard him talking to another family member about how the remote removes a great barrier for those that have always found video games to be way to technical. My brother and sister-in-law had a good time playing while I was off deep frying a turkey. My brother, who spent his day with his wife's side of the family, called me later that night and asked if I was up for a few rounds of wii sports (he had played it two days earlier.) Total, I know at least four people at this point who are ready to throw down $250 for a wii, so far.

Washington Post: Wii comes to Thanksgiving, PS3 locked up

Nov 25th 2006 1:15AM (Joystiq)
I have tried, really tried, to get my friends and family interested in the Xbox 360, without success. The Wii on the other hand sells itself. My dad, brother, brother-in-law, and a friend are all planning on buying a wii after playing with mine this week. And I'm pretty sure they will then introduce the wii to friends in their own social circles.

What games will you play over Thanksgiving?

Wii Sports, Twilight Princess, and The Legend of Zelda.

Kick ass! I just assumed the volume was fixed.

To buy or not to buy: Virtual Console review roundup

One thing I've learned from the VC is that Bonk's Adventure is utter crap. I'd rather play Altered Beast.

Losing your inhibition (Wii delight #002)

Nov 21st 2006 11:42PM (Joystiq)
I had a friend over today to play Wii Sports. We're both 30, and grew up playing video games together. While I remained an avid gamer, he plays more casually now on his Xbox 1. And he's been over to play games on my 360.

We had played Wii Sports for no more than 10 minutes before he said he was going to pick a wii up on the way home. I said good luck on that. After playing for two hours, he said that this was the most fun he has had playing video games in the past 10 years.

Metareview - Mobile Suit Gundam: Crossfire

I think Adam Sessler summed it up best when he said something to the effect, "If you are buying Gundam games, you are part of the problem."

Wii ennui from Slate: "Nintendon't" [update 1]

I guess I had the opposite reaction. It works better than I thought it was going to. Even got a 192 the first game I bowled. Gesture based gaming feels natural and intuitive. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

New Wii owners: your impressions?

It's pretty sweet. I'm really digging this whole gesture based gaming thing.

Trayless disk loading: rad (Xbox 360 annoyance #016)

Nov 18th 2006 12:09PM (Joystiq)
I prefer the tray. I'm always paranoid that trayless slot loaders are going to scratch my discs.
