The voucher has given you 30days of access. What i have said is that if you start your account during the alpha less then 30 days before the beta would begin, your time would obviously spill over to the Beta. I have NEVER stated that alpha access would guarantee free Beta access. If you got your key during the end of the Alpha you have gotten far more time then the 30 days you payed for, since i stopped the count down on all accounts for the last month.
I m sorry that you are unhappy, but the terms are very clearly stated on the website, in non lawyer speak.
Im fairly convinced i haven't got an email from you since i read them all. I get 50+ Emails a day so it is possible that it has gotten lost. Please, try again
I make no profit form the 3 euros what so ever, it is money only used for the server farm. If you don't like donating for a beta i completely understand and think you should wait until the final release. This is about giving people the OPTION to check out the game, not forcing or scamming anyone.
I completely understand if people don't want to pay for the Beta, My advice for anyone who is unsure, is just to wait for the final release.
To the people who think I am greedy, I can only tell you this, I have been working on this game for 3 years without funding, or publisher and all I'm asking is that you contribute to the server costs (bandwidth and hardware). I make no profit what so ever. If i didn't ask for 3 euros, I wouldn't be able to let more then 500 players in So there wouldn't be an open beta at all.
Another thing that the payed beta lets me do is test the payment system. That HAS to work, if you think the beta is bad deal, imagine paying for the final game and not getting access because the payment system is broken.
I hope to see many of you in the Beta, and let me know what you think of it.
Contrary to popular belief, I have never been offered to "Cash out" by any publisher or investor. Some have browsed, but never gotten serious about a deal. At this point when I have invested so much myself, and I so close to release I have a hard time seeing a deal that I would take. I have gotten interest form some console makers so its not impossible that it may show up some time in the future on a console, but right now PC is my focus and Linux and OSX is next.
Thank you very much for understanding. I would love to have it be free, but I simply can not afford to run the servers need to let everyone who wants to play in. Especially running the servers in Atlanta to give US players better ping. I hope that I clearly state my reasons on the alpha page and that that no one feels cheated. While i expected this to be controversial, I am happy to report that so far no on in the Alpha has complained or asked for a refund.
I appologize for the slow download. If anyone wants to spread the video to sites like You tube please do so. You can find links to the mp4 files directly at: http://www.quelsolaar.com/love/video.html Oh and thanks for all the nice words. I will try to answer as many questions as i can on the blog news.quelsolaar.com
Point of order: How is this a diary? Do words like "documentary" and "diary" mean nothing at all anymore? In my world they are quite different form things like "promo video" and "trailer".
From some one who would actually like to see a Development diary.
As a game developer, i have 2 goals in life, get in to EDGE, and get on the brodeo, I made the first one, but now i may as well (Almost...) quit game development. The brodeo will be great in the future too, but never the same.
I think we should all start to refer to Will Wright as "Yoko" until EA gives Jeff the permission to do the podcast. news.quelsolaar.com
"you could argue we gave you 1280 pixels of vertical resolution"
Yes you could, but you would be wrong.
Resolution means how many pixels you see, it has nothing to do with how you render your images. you can draw your pixels many times for many many reasons: HDRI, Fog, gas, multi-pass, defired rendering, transparency or just plain overdraw. Esentialy there are no modern games that don't draw at least some pixels twice. In fact it considered to be a bad habit, so multiple passes is nothing to brag about, its a necessary evil that is best to avoid for performance reasons.
if you count the number of passes you draw, my game (www.quelsolaar.com) would be running in about 5000P
If you own a PS3, would you buy a film on DVD or Blu Ray? I would buy a Blu ray, even if i don't have a HDTV because I might get a HDTV in the future and i don't want to have to re buy my films then.
Even if you have no intention of buying a ps3 for the Blu Ray, If you buy it, would you then buy a separate HD-DVD player to watch films on? Not likely. You would use the Blu Ray even if that in no way influenced your decision to buy the PS3.
Selling a HDDVD player to some one who owns a PS3 will be almost impossible. And remember most HDDVD players costs more then the PS3.
Consider: If sony sells only half as many PS3s as PS2s, then they would still have 50 million BluRay players out there. That's plenty. If all thouse people buy one or two films....
Why do always people WWII as a success story? 50 million dead is not really what i call effective conflict resolution. War is to worst state humanity can be in, so what state is war protecting us from?
Anyone who think that war is a solution to any problem is naive and doesn't really know what war is. So army's have to make sure the population is naive and thinks war is just a game.
