See every side of PixelJunk Sidescroller

Aug 19th 2011 9:49PM (Joystiq)
As a huge fan of the PixelJunk games, I'm slightly disappointed in the apparent recycling of assets from PixelJunk Shooter. The ships, the missile-firing enemies, the water, the lava --- all look like graphically remixed, neon versions of their counterparts from Shooter.

If this was marketed as "PixelJunk Shooter Remix" or something similar, I'd have no problem, as Shooter (1 and 2) are excellent. But to market it as a new game using old assets simply strikes an off chord.

What say you, gentlemen?

Devil May Cry trailer and screens show off Ninja Theory's spin

@Chareth Cutestory

Pull the staircar around and we'll high-tail it far, far away from Ninja Theory.

*For those that don't get the reference, shame on you.*

Devil May Cry trailer and screens show off Ninja Theory's spin

@Brother Unit No 4

Thank you, sir, for your thoughtful reply. You're spot on about a closer camera and tighter environments. Think back to the original Devil May Cry and some of the absolutely claustrophobic rooms and corridors in which marionettes would be closing in on you without much room to maneuver. Or even better, a Shadow or Phantom!

Those were tense and exhilarating encounters BECAUSE you were restricted by space. You had to make intelligent use of the limited space and couldn't simply run circles around your foes.

I think video game designers these days need to concentrate more on the DESIGN aspect of their craft. Ultimately, games should be FUN, and sadly, it's getting harder and harder to find that sense of enjoyment in a lot of today's big budget releases. We'll see how this one pans out.

With all due respect, gentlemen and ladies, I am still not sold on this one bit. Ninja Theory has yet to prove that they can do deep and flexible combo-driven combat.

Furthermore, I realize it's just a small sampling, but why are the areas featured in this video so large and lifeless? Devil May Cry 2 had large, flat, lifeless stages, and we all know how that turned out. There's a big, big difference between good GRAPHICS and good DESIGN. This certainly has the former, but I daresay it's quite lacking in the latter.

I await your replies. Good day to all.

PlayStation Network PLAY is (a lot) like Summer of Arcade; starts later this month

I agree with you wholeheartedly, sir.

Sir, I feel I must intervene on Senor Whopper's behalf. Your words did come off as spiteful, intentional or not. In fact, I believe they were both spiteful AND critical as the two are not mutually exclusive. However, I am not making judgment nor contesting your right to your opinion. I am merely relaying the perceived insinuation. Take that as you will.

These Street Fighter figures will pummel your heart

You are exactly right. I was about to comment on that as well. The grin is much too wide for Ryu. Perhaps they mixed up the heads during production.

European PSN releases for July 13

@senorwhoppy

Thanks for replying. The file size was 50MB for me as well. The install bar gets to about 20 percent then quits with an error message. Strange....

European PSN releases for July 13

Jul 13th 2011 1:56PM (Joystiq)
The PixelJunk Shooter 2 demo has given me an error each time I've tried to install it. I even deleted and redownloaded the file from the store with no better luck.

Are any of you other fine gentlemen and ladies experiencing this issue?

Also, for anyone else who's wondering, Sony has restricted the new Plus content to paying subscribers only. So, if you're like me and waited to activate your Welcome Back Plus trial, you're not allowed to try the new free Plus content, like Castle Crashers. It merely shows up as a demo. Boo! Hiss! I say, bad show!

New PS3 model drops HD Blu-ray display over component

Jul 13th 2011 12:46PM (Joystiq)
@(Unverified)

You're absolutely right. The article title is confusing and potentially misleading.

Replacing the word "over" with "via" would make it much easier to understand. Using "over" makes it seem like the PS3 is losing HD display because of some issue with component.

"New PS3 model drops HD Blu-ray display via component." Better, right?
