OMG Lilac PSP! Sony says 'Girlz Play Too'

Aug 5th 2009 4:35PM (Joystiq)
It would be nice to say 'no girls are like that, how demeaning!' and refute the stereotype, but in this case, it exists because most tweener girls ARE like that. And since when is 'OMG' belittling the intelligence of young females? It may not be high prose, but most of us using this blog have, at some point, used it, too - male or female - and all ages.

These girls look a bit older than the usual Hannah Montana demographic, but then again girls of the Hannah Montana target range mostly WANT to see themselves as older. So again, yes, quite valid.

Frankly, it's a smart marketing move. One of very, very few Sony has made with the PSP in the USA. Throw some Twilight or goth-girl appeal in there next time and get the more anime/vamp crowd and it'll round out the younger female PSP market pretty well.

Can you make it so that when you type in 'pspfanboy.com' you only get PSP news? I don't have a PS3 and am not interested in general PS2/PS3 news.

Japan getting Carnival Color PSP systems

Jan 26th 2009 8:17PM (Joystiq Playstation)
Because Sony has decided to waste no time or money on the USA market, despite there being so many units sold here. They refuse to port over high profile JP games and then blame 'piracy' for the lack of interest and developer support (bullshit).

Sony is simply screwing up. They're making bad choices and there's no accountability at the corporate level so they blame the end users for the lack of 1st party and 3rd party development.

Hey Sony - Anyone tell you that you're pulling a PC-Engine with the PSP? Go look up your pals at NEC and see how that particular mega-popular JP console did over here with no support and no imported games.

3.0.8 maintenance extended to 1 PM PST

Some bitching about extended game downtime is warranted. Bitching about people doing any amount of bitching about downtime is stupid, as are WoW players telling other WoW players they're 'nerds' or 'need to go outside'.

The game is great overall, but Blizzard customer service has its faults and those of us (including people commenting) who pay for the service are entitled to comment on the quality of same.

Extra Maintenance Hours: Unknown

WoW monthly payment: $14.99

Average cost of normal WoW game or xpacs: $39.99

Average cost of Collector's game or xpacs: $79.99

4 Years of WoW payments: $719.52

WoW players telling other WoW players they're 'nerds' or that they need to 'go outside and get some fresh air and exercise': Priceless.

Sorry, make that upwards of $900 for 4 years of dues and Collector XPACs. I didn't multiply for the number of years I've been playing.

In short, if people don't like waiting to 1pm and Blizzard keeps doing the whole 'it's 4 hours! no wait, 8 hours! no wait...' thing, then people have a legit beef. You're certainly no less a nerd or no-lifer by comparison simply because you think their complaints are 'funny'.

You are. By saying you 'think it's funny' and labeling people 'nerds' because they're unhappy with this level of service. You're basically saying people who bitch about downtime and lack of forewarning from Bliz are silly or more nerdy than you are.

At least the complainers usually try to make a constructive point for better service. What's YOUR cause? Making fun of people who complain. Lame, but then again you probably have mom and dad paying your $15/mo. so you don't see a correlation between payment and customer support. I've paid upwards of $500 to Blizzard counting Collector Editions and monthly dues. If I expect better than being told at 11am that the servers may be back up at 1pm, I have every right to say so.

Newsflash: Griping about 'nerds' griping makes you a bigger nerd with even less of a life.

December NPD: PSP sells 1.02 million systems

Jan 18th 2009 4:43AM (Joystiq Playstation)
SCEA gets the Spin-Master award, that's for sure. OK, so the PS2 finally reached the 50m mark. That doesn't mean it's moving many units on its own, or that its sales are going to be going up to help float Sony through this brutal failure.

One would hope they wake up to the fact that the PSP is still their best bet at a successful platform with many more units sold than the PS3 and better sales through this past Christmas season... But they won't, of course, and dump more futile PR cash at the PS3 while letting a huge library of great Japanese PSP games accumulate overseas while the US market continues to die off, strangled by a lack of domestic titles and absolutely no accessory or 1st Party development by Sony.

...Oh, but teh piracy!!11!1
