You really need a clear game plan, and at least some indication that you can pull off what your trying to get funded. I'm not getting any of that form this guy's kickstarter.
@Hoops It's not begging for donations, it's crowd sourcing the funding for more risky titles, in order to bypass traditional publishers.
A lot of good games are killed by lack of funding, or publishers wanting it there way or the high way. that's not counting them taking all the profits if the game does well, leaving the developers on the hook for the next game as well.
@DougKaplan I don't see why not. One of it's most highly praised games, Rayman, is a 2d platformer. It's also got several other high profile classic styles games, like mutant blog and super stardust.
It blurs the line because it's not limited to just such games, like older handhelds were. The GBA wasn't a platform renaissance, it just wasn't capable of doing anything but 2d games. The Ds, likewise, wasn't that great at 3d, so it got a ton of 2d games as well.
The 3ds and Vita allow developers to make games without having to compromise vision in order to fit the platform's limitations.

Seriously, you jump from starts that hover about 150 to status in the thousand+ range, with dps jumping from 5-10k to dmg in the millions.
