I work at a Gamestop, and yeah, the M-rating doesn't even faze most parents. Our standard script is "X game is rated M for Mature for..." and read off the ESRB descriptors on the back.
Not my place to tell people how to parent their kids, but... come on...

When we first were allowed to start pre-ordering the 3DS, everything in our system was just a placeholder. The date was like 12/31/11, the price was $1000, and we had no idea what colors they would bring over to the US.
My guess would be that we will handle the color situation by just calling you, letting you know that Nintendo has confirmed price, release date, colors, yada yada, and for you to come in and roll your existing pre-order onto one of the confirmed colors.
If you are buddies with your GS guys they'll probably let you pick a color over the phone. Otherwise they'll probably make you come in so we can do our contractual obligation of asking if you want to reserve ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING for the 3DS. And re-up your PowerUp Rewards card. And buy a warranty.
