Microsoft's 'Menlo' working towards a mobile future without Windows CE?

May 5th 2010 7:36AM (Engadget)
Tech companies shouldn't be able to use similar codenames...

Sony's 35-inch atracTable to be 'industrialized' in June, show Microsoft how it's done (video)

Sony bought the tech for the name, surely? They want something named "Atrac" to be a success. :)

Official Twitter for Android app goes live, will go open source

Apr 30th 2010 6:59PM (Engadget)
@OldNewOne A new app loses the "maturity" fight every time. Mind you, the Twitter apps on Android have been evolving rapidly over the last 6 months. Maybe it was just a $ thing after all.

Official Twitter for Android app goes live, will go open source

Interesting that they wrote an app for Android instead of buying one like they did for the iPhone. That might say something about Apple (or Twitter...)

MacBook Pros with NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M silicon making questionable graphics switching decisions

I'm guessing viewing trailers in Chrome bumps you up to discrete graphics when Quicktime is loaded, but then Quicktime probably stays in memory when you're done, so you stay on discrete graphics.

GSM Palm Pre SIM unlock now available, unofficially

Apr 18th 2010 5:27PM (Engadget)
So, it seems that now there's other companies doing Palm's job - that of putting their phones into new markets. And making money out of consumers for doing so.

Palm's up for sale because they blew it.

I'm in Australia. I wanted a Pre. I waited, and waited, and waited. It's still not available to me, and there's no sign of it coming. Now I have a Nexus One, my only interest in Palm now is purely from a news / technology perspective.

Kogan's latest fantasy product? An IPTV with Chrome browser, WiFi & gaming

I want to see this thing running Boxee.

Kogan's latest fantasy product? An IPTV with Chrome browser, WiFi & gaming

@SteveyAyo I disagree. The Agora Pro stuff was clearly an unfortunate series of events, but it was in the very early days of Android when it wasn't clear to the world at large (and Kogan in particular) just how one would have to go about licensing the OS. There were silly choices in the hardware specs (screen resolution particularly), and a few things were announced that probably shouldn't have been.

That was 2008. It's now 2010. The guy's clearly shipping products to customers and is talking about some products he wants to create in the future. He deserves a bit of a break by now - Kogan's not Monster Cable, nor Gizmondo.

This is more than a little unfair - Kogan DOES have a lot of products on sale at kogan.com.au and there are a lot of satisfied customers here in Oz. You shouldn't harsh on him for talking about stuff he's working on (even though he could be a bit more forthcoming about stuff that doesn't work out).

Fusion Garage JooJoo review

Apr 6th 2010 12:08AM (Engadget)
@leonbev It doesn't necessarily mean they'll start a bugfix and deploy it in the same week - my point was more that communication from the company to its customers appears to be lacking and unorganised (which, I say as someone who's lived there, is not unusual for Singaporean companies).
