@Silent Intent Here's a better, clearer reply: Miyamoto didn't do the interview in plain English, so he didn't use the word "retire" at all, contrary to your claim.
This might just be a "misinterpretation", where the word "retire" isn't exactly what Miyamoto meant. On the topic at hand, journalists knew they could've picked a less sensationalist title. Something more along the lines of:
"Miyamoto To Take More Active Role In Game Development"
I'm sure the media knew what Miyamoto meant. But, of course, they also knew that careful placement of the words "Miyamoto" and "retiring" generate hits. And hits lead to fatter wallets.
So now Nintendo's stock is down, Miyamoto can't become personal with his work again, and everybody's pissed. Anything for a bigger paycheck...
