Criterion explains Burnout Paradise online hard drive requirement

Feb 5th 2008 2:23AM (Joystiq)
I was one of the people that originally bought a core back on release day. Then I remember waiting patiently for the demo of FFXI on the official OXM disc. I rushed to the shop, bought it, only to find in very small print on the back of the magazine that a hard drive was required. I felt cheated but went out the next day and bought a hard drive. I am sure something similar has happened to other users.

Now with the advent of the arcade models, the customers who buy burnout will find out they can't play on live. While I think it's a poor decision on MS part to have released a console without a hard drive, I imagine hard drive sales will increase sightly

Velvet Revolver, Foo Fighters Guitar Hero III track packs hit Xbox Live

Nov 8th 2007 3:35PM (Joystiq)
It may just be me but the Foo Fighters pack that I bought seems like it's all bass. All the original songs sound fine to me, but all the songs in the pack just seem to have way to much bass. Anyone else notice this? Great band by the way. Just saw them live on Monday night.

Rock Band in bundle only until 2008

Oct 15th 2007 4:13PM (Joystiq)
Well in the UK we are still waiting for individual x-plorer guitars and the only way still to buy GH2 for 360 is in a bundle. No stand alone guitar and no game on its own. And that didn't hurt having the bundle sell out everywhere for months. Luckily this time GH3 wil be available as a game only as well as the bundle.

Though I'm gonna have to import rock band from the US as we don't even have a confirmed release date yet. Sometime next year last I checked. That's gonna be one expensive shipping charge! Welcome to gaming in the UK

Red Octane says two Xbox guitar models 'defective'

Apr 7th 2007 1:45PM (Joystiq)
I'm in the UK and have a 95055 guitar I bought on Thursday. No problems to speak of. Plays perfectly including the whammy bar and star power.

GAME gives you a 3 months warranty anyways if you keep the receipt.

Europe gets Punch Out, other virtual console classics first

and in Europe we don't even have a release date for Super Paper Mario. Trade ya!?

PS3 kicks off most successful home console launch in UK... ever

Mar 26th 2007 4:36PM (Joystiq)
The 70 units for the 360 would have been just for UK. There were no 360's to be found in the UK for a couple of months after launch date so they did sell out their initial supply.

Brits learn from U.S., some stores cancel PS3 midnight launch

Mar 21st 2007 10:41AM (Joystiq)
Just today I was in M&S and they were still announcing preorders. In this country people love Sony. If fact many stores that do not ordinarily stock video game systems are releasing the PS3. Everywhere you walk you can guarantee your PS3 for launch day. And it's only about 36 hours away. I have yet to see one store that has no preorders available.

So the fact that HMV and Game have canceled their midnight launches only suggests that they have not sold enough to warrant being open. If they haven't even sold their allocation how can they say they are not opening at midnight in fear of security issues?

GameStop reaching out for your Twilight Princess

Anyone that lives in the UK and has a CEX near them they are taking the gamecube version for £41 cash or £44 exchange. Don't know how they can afford that. It sells new for £40 anyways. In US that's about $80 cash and $90 exchange. Check it out http://www.cex.co.uk/product.php?sku=045496963071. The wii version only gets £19 cash. Got £26 for mine last week but they have loads of them so no surprise they lowered the prices.

Exploring Myst Online on the eve of launch

Feb 15th 2007 2:34AM (Joystiq)
Europe gets shafted again. The last time I played this was back in Canada when we got that letter from Rand telling us our uru world was over.

When I made the move from Canada to the UK I never imagined how vastly different the entire gaming culture was. From price to availability to different systems it's completely different.

I mean wtf was the Spectrum and why does everybody in this country talk like it's the grandfather of gaming??

Zelda, Gears, and others for $39 this week at Target

Dec 26th 2006 7:02PM (Joystiq)
38 Dollars?? I just paid 39 pounds for zelda. That's just about $80 with the exchange. Why is there such a difference?? Not only games as the wii set me back £179 or about $350. Versus $250 in USA. That's about 40% more. Gotta be rich to game in the UK!!
