inspired...Here is a possibility: What if Sony thinks they will loose money by allowing PSP owners to play PS1 games directly, because Sony wants you to buy a PS3 before you can play PS1 games.
So at this moment Sony is forcing all PSP owners who want to play PS1 games to buy a PS3. Perhaps they are hopeing this will drive PS3 sales. Probably they have done the calculations that selling cheap PS1 games to PSP owners directly leads to less profit then having PSP owners buy a PS3 and then buy PS1 games...
this is promising. they should play around with formats to see what works best on the psp in terms of video and audio quqlity. No need for dolby digital, but good quality mp3 audio and mp4 video would be good.
Has this been proposed exclusively for the US? Or other countries as well?
xman he means that almost nobody in the netherlands is using the analog antenna to receive TV signals. nearly everybody has a cable connection in their house. so when the government pulls the plug on analog antenna TV reception, it really doesnt affect anybody...
jeff, I agree totally. But I think previous commenters did not have a problem with the argument that videogames have an influence on violent behavior. The real question is whether video games CAUSE violent behavior, and I think that neither the study cited above nor any other evidence points in this direction.
The problem is that politicians seem to take studies like the one cited here as evidence that videogames cause violence. Obviously, 'influence' and 'cause' are very different things.
Eclipse, I think you fail to understand that neither 50MB nor 500MB places any constraints on being tight in coding. I think in current games the actual code that is programmed fits well under 50MB, so that 50MB does not lead to any better coding than does say 500MB. However, I think that in current games most space is taken up by graphics, music, etc. In that case, having more space is better, since it could increase the quality of graphics, music...
And btw, I agree that tighter coding is important, and I agree that sloppy programming is bad. it just seems rather ridiculous to me to make a difference between 50 and 500MB. You dont think that the actual code of the game runs in the 100s of MBs do you?
My point was, if you are going to accuse the ps3 for having too much space for games, you might as well accuse *every* system since the C64, because compared to C64 all consoles have enormous amounts of space. Why pin the blame on the ps3? I dont get it. Enlighten me please.
"Leniency could lead to sloppy development, leaving games unnecessarily large, in turn, increasing download times."
This argument is such BS. Yes, size increase could lead to sloppy programming, but I dont see how that affects PS3 in particular. I mean compared to an C64, programming for XBOX360 should be incredibly sloppy.
Look its very simple. You cant just go on hardware alone. You just cannot say that xbox360 or ps3 is better because it has better hardware. In the end many complex factors come into play, most importantly the availability of good games, but also other factors such as brandname acceptance, and consumer satisfaction. At present, the influence of these factors cannot be known, because the ps3 has not come out yet (or came out only last week). Therefore, it is impossible to say whether you should buy a 360 or a ps3. The only way to know is to do the most sensible thing, which is to wait a little while to see how things play out. Good luck.
