PSA: E3 2010 online registration closes this Wednesday

Jun 8th 2010 10:56AM (Joystiq)
God I hate people that are faking their way in. I met some guy a few weeks ago who was trying to hook up with me, saying we could meet up at E3 later, swearing up and down that his "friend was getting him in with Nintendo". Remembering the registration process I had to go through, I scoffed and told him he'd see me at E3 all right...from the cameras, on G4 TV, from the comfort of his living room. I have half a mind to send Nintendo a heads up that one of their employees is trying to let someone else piggy back.

Blur's French TV spots are far from feminist

It only "sets back feminism 30 years" if we continue to equate feminine sexuality with negativity and disrespect. Don't fight the sexual images, fight the attitude that makes them negative in the first place: the persecution we place on females we present themselves sexually.

Why 'Skinny Jeans' Should Never Be The Reason A Rapist Walks

Good on you! Seriously, I don't understand why it's so hard for other people to get it!

Right, "at least even". Never mind that women statistically make 75 cents for every dollar a man makes and frequently face discrimination and the threat of physical harm because of our culture that encourages and socially sanctions the lowered status of females. It's very unfortunate your father and friend were falsely accused, but statistically, 90% of rapes go unreported, only 60% ever make it to prosection, and false reports of rape occur less often than false reports of car theft, in terms of validity. What you're saying is a statistically anomaly compared to the reality of sexual assault. One in three women in her life is sexually assaulted before the age of 40, and given how many rapes go unreported, this is a light estimate.

But I should probably stop trying to reason with someone who uses a fictional TV drama as evidence of reality...

Please. Don't compare people and food. We're talking about living human beings with real feelings.

You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time in the sexual process, period. It's your body, no one else's, and no one has the right to make you do anything you don't want to do.

Women in Games conference canceled due to 'low delegate numbers'

Ah typical, tons of upvotes for the female pretending there isn't such a thing as gender issues so she can get her free "honorary male" pass.

Get real, yourself. Get a clue while you're at it. If you can't recognize that there are certain issues for females in the world of gaming, topics that either aren't handled maturely or ignored all together in the mainstream sites and conferences, then you must be as inattentive as can be. There are issues of workplace inequality, wage disparities, rampant sexism and sexual harassment, sexist depictions of women, etc etc etc and you're going to tell me we don't need a safe place to discuss the issue free from the sarcastic, childish ridicule that sites like Kotaku perpetuates?

This isn't about being special. "Girl" gaming sites and conferences pop up for the same reason magazines like Ebony do: a certain demographic sees their needs and interests being ignored on such a frequent basis that they feel the need to find a different way to circulate the ideas and issues pertinent to them. In other words, if we weren't excluded by default so often, we wouldn't have need of a separate conference.

DigiPen expands, increasing graduating class size by a third

@Einhanderkiller

Of the several Digipen students/grads I know, they all say that very same thing. In particular there's a teacher of Indian descent who's claim to fame is doing the water effects for Wave Race...and he's a nightmare, apparently, the type of guy who thinks you should already have everything figured out, and won't teach you anything he thinks you're already supposed to know. Which is everything.

Fun fact, Digipen's other claim to fame is having been featured in the Rolling Stone. RS promptly took the "OMG THEY HAVE THE HUGEST FURRY POPULATION EVER" angle and took all the coolness out of being featured in the first place.

Most of them don't relocate. They don't have to. All of my Digipen friends got jobs right in Redmond and Bellevue.
