Aug 11th 2006 10:59AM This is a very cool Idea. I find the virtual world extremly facinating and absolutely worth studying in an academic mode.
There is a wonderful, and scary future to be found in virtual worlds. I believe our virtual lives have the potential to become just as important socially as our real lives.

Jun 21st 2006 10:33AM I stopped trading in games for that very reason. I would rather keep the game and possibly enjoy it later on rather than trade it in for a few measly bucks.

Jun 8th 2006 3:46PM Ibere, the situation you describe shows up in the trailer? Nice. So not only is it in the game, it is also a selling point.
I don't care if the game is a horror game or if its about making waffles, It contains child eroticism displayed for entertainment purposes and this society deems that inappropriate to the point of illegal to display.
Sonys self-censorship reflects that fact and no amount of "well that's not what the game is about" is going to change that.

Jun 8th 2006 1:25PM Ibere, I don't think the discussion is about the game in question anymore. I think its more about how far is "far enough".
Like #44 said. Video Games for the most part are made for entertainment. Not news, not education.
The issue is not "why is this leagal and this isn't" The issue is what should be allowed to be distributed for entertainment purposes and what shouldn't.
Yes children have sex. It's a fact of life. But I don't have (nor do I want) the freedom to watch it. Just because something can be done, doesn't mean you automatically have the right to do it. Thats just part of living in an organized society.

Jun 8th 2006 12:53PM Listen, I am an artist, which makes me a HUGE supporter of free speech. I am also a Christian.
But neither of those two traits have anything to do with the issue at hand. The issue is Should someone have the RIGHT to create erotic material involving children and distrubite that legally through our economic system? The answer is no.
You can use the argument: "Let the consumers decide" and that works well for some stuff. But not here. Because there is a distinction in this case.
People who enjoy media showing erotic encounters between children opperate on a different frequency than those who enjoy media showing graphic violence. Violence and child pornography not the same thing.
Whether you want to admit it or not, there is a line here. And just because some like to cross that line doesn't mean that the rest of us should allow that to happen here. There are rules for a reason. Morality exists for a reson. People can get hurt without it.
