Bottom-of-the-barrel players aside, there is almost nothing else quite like EVE on the market. Nothing that has such a deep, player-driven economy, or such a unique progression system, or spaceships instead of gear (seriously, this is a big deal). Nothing that has maintained a steady player count GROWTH year after year, that has such extensive post-launch support (name me one other game - any game! - that has had *the entire graphics engine and ALL associated assets completely redone*!), or has actually bounced back from near-catastrophe.
Yes, the PVE rather sucks. Yes, they still don't have damage modeling in the game. Yes, you have to do some form of grinding in order to get your foot in the door. Yes, a lot of corporations have extremely paranoid or elitist recruitment policies. Yes, there is a lot of blobbing going around. Yes, there are a LOT of bad apples around.
Yet despite all these problems, I can't put the game down. There is simply nothing else like it out there, and it'll just keep on getting better and better.
I'm afraid I have no great interest in trying to "address" the issues when said issues are of a completely irrational nature. Really, do you expect me to go up to a devout follower of Sharia law and try to "address" some of their more ridiculous beliefs? Not a nice way to put it, but it is what it is - some things just aren't worth direct confrontation.
I simply cannot agree with this. 8WR seems to mostly be on board with the patch. Maxi got some much-needed nerfing straight to the face, Natsu got some downward adjustments, and those two were the most outrageously OP of all the cast, which automatically makes everyone else *better*. Yes, alpha Patroklos can still do those ridiculous double twisters, but the execution barrier (and the fact that he has yet to place high in a tournament) helps to make up for this.
They also buffed the hell out of Ivy and Viola - perhaps too well, if you ask me. The omission of some more Zwei changes is certainly a puzzling one, among others (I've heard Raphael and Siegfried banded about), but the game is still relatively new and there are still going to be more patches later. Speaking as an Aeon player, I'm pretty happy with the changes. I'm no longer at rock-bottom tier, and the top tier are considerably less untouchable (provided I learn the match-ups, which is an ongoing thing). That, to my mind, is a Good Thing.
Key difference between that case and the Mittani's: There was AN ACTUAL SUICIDE. Furthermore, there was ACTUAL HARASSMENT, not a SUGGESTION of future harassment that may or may not have happened in the future.
Mind you, I do not condone the Mittani's actions, and yes, he's still at least partially responsible for having accepted so much alcohol in the first place, but the level of hatred seen in these very comment threads is well past the realm of reason. CCP itself is at least partially to blame for actively *encouraging* Alliance presenters to drink before going on stage, and at that level of intoxication, he was bound to say some pretty stupid things.
@dlambert2
I actually agree with you fully, they are scum and, quite frankly, some of the things they do should get them legally penalized. In this *particular* instance, however, I do not agree with how people have been throwing his name into the mud on EVERY EVE-RELATED COMMENT THREAD EVERYWHERE ON THE INTERNET, among other, ahem, things. It is insanity. There is being rightfully angry, and then there is being outright vengeful. That sort of behavior fringes on the latter.
The guy didn't get anyone killed. The guy apologized (or at least, *tried* to, obviously very few people believe him because of the aforementioned lust for vengeance - hm, kind of reminds me of a witch hunt), made reparations, and finally paid for it with the loss of effectively all his prestige (outside of the Goons, that is) and direct access to the game that got him into this sort of behavior in the first place.
Quite frankly, I'm surprised he even did that much. Let's face it - someone in a position of power like that? They don't actually *have* to apologize. What would have happened if he didn't? People don't believe him anyway, right? But he did it anyway. He swallowed his pride and issued a gorram apology. I can respect that.
At any rate, it appears I am in the minority here. A shame, that, but it's pretty clear that when people are out for blood... they are insatiable. Oh, well. I can only assume that something like this is not going to happen in the future...
I really don't like how so many folks just want to keep dragging him through the mud like this. It just reeks of hypocrisy and moral absolutism.
What he did was certainly reprehensible, but it was NOT criminally actionable, just reprehensible. And the constant assumptions that he will learn nothing from it just damns us all - if you give no one the benefit of the doubt, well, what does that say about you?
And then there are those who use this incident to infer qualities over the rest of the EVE community. Really? Come on! He's one guy. ONE guy. Yes, he got 10,058 votes. So what? There are over 300,000 active players in EVE (a lot more in active accounts, but I know a lot of people run dual/triple/etc. accounts), he was supported directly by less than 1/30th of the active population, and the people supporting him on the forums are STILL a tiny minority simply by virtue of being forum posters.
So no, you do not get the moral high ground to pass judgement on the entirety of the EVE community because of one man's actions, the mere thought is simply ludicrous and needs to be stopped before it even leaves your neural cortex. Furthermore, the demand for "JUSTICE" needs to be tempered with the understanding that punishment does NOT actually solve problems, it just makes some people feel better. As long as the message is sent and received, what has to be done, has been done.
And quite frankly, some of you people are actually making me physically sick with your level of hatred and paranoia. Stop it. You lose your moral high ground as soon as you start advocating for unjustifiably harsher measures.
I LOVE the Ecaflips. Best RNG mechanics in any MMORPG I've played (most particularly because the class is *centered* around it, as opposed to the RNG being shoe-horned in because the devs can't think of any ways to add to the combat without randomness). Sometimes you do very little-to-no damage, sometimes you do absolutely JAW-DROPPING damage, and if you choose to, you can just do consistent damage by eschewing the RNG moves altogether (but that's boring, why would you do that?).
What did pandas ever do to you to inspire such hatred and disgust? Okay, strong words, but you at least appear to have distaste for them strong enough to engender an immediate reaction, so what's up with that?
DId one maul you in your childhood or something? I could believe that. Unlikely, but it can happen...
