Pop-Block uncovers Arkham 2 teaser's mysteries

Dec 20th 2009 10:26PM (Joystiq)
Also have to consider that the grappling hook devices are very similar to the grapple beam.

Then consider the Scarecrow stages, which I found similar to the game areas that require you to use Samus in ball form (jump and avoid damage).

Microsoft recovers 'most, if not all' Sidekick customer data

Oct 15th 2009 9:29PM (Engadget)
I can tell most of you have never worked with a SAN or even understand how it stores data.

Imagine a big ass RAID array, only with dozens or hundreds of disks and a few servers and a complex network controlling it all.

What likely happened was the equivalent of deleting the partition(s) on your computer and swapping out the motherboard, then realizing you didn't back anything up. A shitty situation to be sure, but not a situation that can't be undone through hard work and many stressful nights. The data was still likely striped across all of the discs, they probably just needed to "put the puzzle" back together by figuring out how the LUNs were created.

Chilean PS3 ads show gamer giving blood transfusion to a Nazi

Sep 29th 2009 10:35PM (Engadget)
I don't believe Rommel was a Nazi, he was a nationalist and fought for his country, not the Nazi ideology. He was in the German military and a respected officer and leader, but never partook of the Nazi party ideology.

See this quote below:

"Nazi party officials in France reported that Rommel extensively and scornfully criticized Nazi incompetence and crimes."

I'm not attempting to remove his affiliation with Nazi Germany, however, it is possible to fight in one's national military without agreeing with the leadership, the national ideology of the time, or even the mission at hand.

As for the ad, I look at it as a gamer striving to keep his game character alive, regardless of their evil intent.

Boston prep school nixes all the books in its library, replaces them with 18 e-readers

Sep 6th 2009 11:02AM (Engadget)
It's clear many of you didn't read the whole article on the website for the school. They're not eliminating all of the books in the library. Sounds to me like they're eliminating all of the books that they can readily get in digital format.

Similarly, the 18 ebook readers they're getting for $12k are likely that expensive because it will cost nearly a $1k to put all of those books on each ebook reader. Not unlike if you were to fill your iPod with 10,000 legally purchased songs.

Maybe the flat panel televisions will be multi-touch panels a la Perceptive Pixel so that you can telestrate ebooks and study in small workgroups together.

Finally, they indicated that when they looked into how many books were actually checked out of the library, there were only 48 books checked out and 30 of them were children's books. Simply put, floor space at a place like that is expensive and if it doesn't make efficient use of the space, it should go.

Microsoft unveils Zune HD, Zune marketplace headed to Xbox 360 [update]

May 27th 2009 11:15PM (Joystiq)
Features I'd like to have:

1) Gamertag + Gamerscore data sync'd to ZuneHD
2) Queue downloads over the internet from my ZuneHD to my 360
3) Wireless sync to home network including attached 360
4) XBLA play with 360 at home (for some Uno with the kids when I'm traveling)

Those are just a few I can think of right now.

Video: Adobe dabbles in video-object manipulation

Nov 30th 2008 11:23AM (Engadget)
Information Central, I couldn't agree more on the updates. It's damn near impossible to maintain patches on thousands of Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash, etc., because their patching mechanisms suck. You'd think they'd want to save on bandwidth when possible, but it seems like they WANT people to get all their patches and updates for each client, each time through automatic updater.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe toned down to keep T-rating

Oct 26th 2008 12:51PM (Joystiq)
Why can't they do like the movie publishers do? Release two versions, including an "Uncensored" one and give people a choice?

Better yet, why not make the M rated content a download through XBL or elsewhere?

Details on the New Xbox Experience: search, hard drive play, alerts, themes, pics

I agree, the avatars should be more of a minigame, something like Spore where you can constantly groom and change the avatar into something that is unique.

CE-Oh no he didn't! Part LVII: Howard Stringer says the Wii is not 'a competitor'

Jul 15th 2008 10:59AM (Engadget)
I completely agree that more hours total probably get put in on a Wii than other game consoles on a weekly basis. Because the Wii has my wife and my daughter involved in it almost daily now, more hours get put on that system than the Xbox 360 in the house.

Rumor: A new Chief'less Halo announced at E3

Jul 7th 2008 5:02PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I'd like to see something similar to the Republic Commando game where there's a team of Spartans in battles leading up to what we've seen so far in the Halo series. Online co-op with 4 Spartans against all of the requisite Halo enemies in a campaign mode would be awesome.
