I sort of agree, although as with these sorts of topics nostalgia plays a significant part. Yes, many of today's game soundtracks are generic and have no outstanding or memorable pieces, but doesn't this also apply to games of yore? We all love the tunes from Final Fantasy, Zelda, Earthbound, but they represent a minority of great soundtracks in a vast sea of shit. Likewise today, you'll find some memorable pieces in modern games like Metal Gear Solid, Halo, Bastion amongst a giant pile of mediocrity.

As a computer animation student, this game gives me a massive hard on.

Scrap the guitar, keyboard, and drums for a microphone only karaoke version that they can stick in bars and what not. The only software change that needs to happen is that you get more points for butchering the song.
