Sony: PS Move ships 10.5 million units
Mar 8th 2012 5:02PM (Joystiq)Shipped is fairly close to sold. Retailers are not in the habit of stockpiling product, they attempt to maintain a just in time system. Storage and financing of large volumes of product make it too expensive for that 10.5 million shipped to be significantly larger than what was actually sold. Businesses are in it to make a profit, and large volumes of unsold merchandise = less profit.

Feb 27th 2012 7:23PM (Joystiq)Making Schindler's List would have been impossible to make and market in 1950, but because it waited 40 some years, it was a classic. Today's events aren't going to be any different.

Feb 25th 2012 5:20PM (Joystiq)Do Japanese RPGs need good stories?
Feb 15th 2012 4:47PM (Joystiq)RPGs are supposed to be interactive films. Story is THE main reason for them to exist. Without a solid story then what's the point? A meaningless trudge through endless battles? That's what MMOs are for. If I just wanted to grind through battle after battle that was strung together with a barely coherent story I will just ignore, I'll re-up my subscription to World of Warcraft.
A RPG, especially a chance and equation based one like Final Fantasy, REQUIRES a strong story. The game is barely interactive as it is, if we want to just skip through all the dialogue and cutscenes, then why bother at all?
It's all in the balance. If you're making a game whose main mechanic is to press a button then sit back and watch a 30 second summoning movie, it had better have something worth following in the story department. If your story is just a thin McGuffin (glazed or otherwise), you'd better have an intensely interactive gameplay element, such as Skyrim or Amalur.
The holy grail, of course, is both, but one of them at least has to have some degree of solid interaction or the entire game will fail. As it stands, Final Fantasy and many other JRPGs have started to combine the rapid fire action of the Ace Attorney series with the deeply philosophical narrative of Unreal Tournament.

Feb 15th 2012 4:21PM (Joystiq)If Hope or Snow died, I would probably cheer. I wouldn't have to deal with them from that point forward.
