Namco Bandai takes note of Dark Souls PC petition

Jan 13th 2012 3:03PM (Joystiq)
@Xero Theory
"Growing a thicker skin" has nothing to do with what people are getting peeved about. There's quite a sect of loony gamers who are literally saying "DON'T PORT THIS TO PC. IT'LL GET PIRATED TO HELL AND BACK". They don't want ANYONE, even legit consumers, to play the game on the PC because of some incredibly idiotic notion that high piracy = no profit.

The reason the PC platform has higher piracy rates is due to it being that much easier, but that really doesn't significantly affect the publisher's bottom line since a very large amount of pirates inflate the piracy numbers by downloading simply because they can, not because they were actually potential consumers. If piracy was truly as bad as some people like to say, no company would ever make a game for the PC, and absolutely no one would make the PC their primary platform.

Unfortunately for the naysayers, neither of the above two statements are true. If companies can and continue to rake in the profit on PC gaming, piracy isn't really as big a detrimental issue as some people like to claim.

"The exception"? Do you even know what you're talking about?

Go look at Steam's user activity (hint: in the TENS of MILLIONS) then come back and say the same thing with a straight face so we can take you straight to the nuthouse.

Xbox hacking victim tells her story, fights for others

You know, considering how Microsoft to this day continues to ignore the problem and refuses to admit that they have a security hole, and considering how long this problem has been occurring they should be catching ten times the flak that Sony got for the PSN hack/downtime last year.

And yet that won't happen, because MS's is succeeding in trying to keep the problem on the downlow. Considering how dozens, possibly hundreds of people are getting their accounts locked and stolen and many getting real fraudulent charges, there should be a considerably bigger outcry. Y'know, considering how people lost their shit over PSN despite that not resulting in people's accounts being lost and credit cards being fraudulently charged.

Lawsuit filed against Sony's anti-lawsuit provision

People filing these frivolous lawsuits should probably realize some day that internet overreaction doesn't actually work in the real world.

thatgamecompany's Kellee Santiago on Vita, and her ongoing argument with Roger Ebert

Dec 20th 2011 12:45AM (Joystiq)
If Sony knows whats good for it they'll renew that contract pronto.

And the whole Ebert debacle is stupid. Completely regardless of how famous a critic of movies you are, you do not automatically get to critique other forms of media of which you are completely ignorant. Period.

PS3 'Other OS' class action dismissed

Yes, Linux ran like crap and wasn't useful for anything worthwhile. When it was removed, user activity on the OtherOS feature was essentially dead except for the people who wanted to crack the console's security measures.

I know gamers like to whine about useless crap, but seriously, this takes the cake.

@BlazeKing

Trust me, anyone who used Linux on the PS3 knew that it wasn't at all what they thought it was going to be. It was still incredibly restricted and it wasn't worth coding for.

The feature was completely dead. Oh, Sony pisses off about the last 100 people on earth who truly cared about the feature, as well as 3 million banshees who are yelling not because they actually cared about the feature but because they just want to hear their own voices and rattle a cage.

Seriously, people, pick your fights. There's plenty of genuine anti-consumer boorish behavior exerted by the industry on its audience. The removal of an obscure feature that nobody used over two YEARS ago isn't one of them.

Indeed, because nothing in software ever gets patched out.

Never.
